Machupicchu

Friday, February 9th, 2007

So what´s up with ¨Machu Picchu¨ and ¨Cuzco¨ when the correct spellings are ¨Machupicchu¨ and ¨Cusco¨?  We climbed above Machupicchu today and it was glorious.  Well, the rain which came in half way up and cleared when we got back to the ruins was not very fun ruining the views, but what a hike.  The mountains surrounding the site as well as the mountain it sits on are breathtaking.  We will head up again tomorrow morning and check out the rest of the site.  We´re staying in the closest town called Aguas Callientes and it is the biggest pit (being very kind due to lack of oxygen to my brain) I have come across in Latin America.  Most beautiful location and they have built the crappiest little town imaginable.  It will serve it´s purpose – one night in between visits to the monument.  Peru is beyond amazing.  Cusco is a fantastic town which served us well for acclimating to the altitude.  We had two incredibly good meals straight out of the best cities of US/Europe.  Totally unexpected and they cost a whopping $35 each night for two.  Took what must be one of the most beautiful train rides in the world from Cusco to here.  Will write more on all of this in the future.  My lungs hurt, my brain is oxygen-deprived, stomach is growling and legs are quivering…  No false expectations here… AMAZING!

Logistics Update

Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

I need a break.  Jillian and I head to Cusco and Machu Picchu tomorrow (in Lima now).  Jillian flies out next Tuesday and then I plan to stop for a bit.  Everything is going great, but I don’t want to burn out and I am hearing that distant cry now.  I will take the time to figure out my next moves, enjoy carnaval, process photos and video and post some entries including photos.  The big headache will be choosing from the thousands that you have not seen.  Prepare to be blown away!!!!  And I haven’t even done Machu Picchu yet!  I was going to race down to Patagonia Chile and catch it before summer fades, but now I just want to slow down and enjoy Peru and Bolivia for a month or so.  No need to hurry.  Patagonia will be there for another trip.  I hate winter so I doubt it will fit in this one based on this new plan, but we’ll see.  After Bolivia it would be logical for me to go to Chile and work my way over to Argentina.  From there I will go through Uruguay to spend a good amount of time in Brazil.  Maybe catch Colombia again – I still can’t forget all the beautiful Colombian women.  My friend, Mark, reports from Venezuela that the women there are just as gorgeous so maybe I will go see the remnants of Venezuela before Hugo Baby (Fidel Wanna Be – Did you see that Forbes is reporting that the Beared One has 900 million dollars thus provng that he totally screwed over his country regardless of what they want to believe about his intentions!!!!!!) screws it all up.  Hugo should be able to rack up billions given the oil reserves and his newly proclaimed powers.  I didn’t say much about Ecuador, but I really loved that country including Quito.  Wish I could see more and I will return there for a vacation someday in the future.  Hopes are high for Peru and Bolivia… Stay Tuned…

Greatest Show On Earth

That's what National Geographic calls Galapagos Islands.  I would have been skeptical after what I saw in Africa, but it's National Geographic making that pronouncement.  Well, being the ultimate skeptic, I was, but I decided to have a little faith ... [Continue reading this entry]

Travel Colombia

Thursday, January 18th, 2007
I was told that you could just see the drug money in Bogota because of its great avenues, buildings and high-end boutiques.  We´re all afraid of Colombia travel and there is obviously some validity to that since it has heavily ... [Continue reading this entry]

Schedule…

Monday, November 27th, 2006
I have decided to push off to Mexico City next Saturday rather than the previously scheduled flight the following Monday.  This will allow me to get to the bullfights on Sunday - another event loved by PETA.  I'm not sure ... [Continue reading this entry]
