139: Mt Cook (Brief)

Friday, May 12th, 2006

Just a quicky..

Went on a few walks in Mt Cook area for the last few days.
Weather was mostly overcast with a few nice spells yesterday and despite contrary forecasts today turned out to be a fabulous, sunny day..

Yesterday (09/05/06) I walked up Tasman Valley to see Tasman Galcier and took a longer hike up Ball Shelter for a great view of Mt Cook.

Today (10/05/06) I went up Mt Ollivier with a couple to Sealy Tarns and Mueller Hut, a Mountain hut at around 1750m. This was a pretty step day hike climbing 1000m and reaching snowy hights but was well worth it for the spectacular views plus we were very lucky with the weather…

Heading off tomorrow towards east coast again to Otago and further down.
Plenty of coastal area to explore with pleny of wildlife.. should be fun.
