108: More Hong Kong

Friday, March 24th, 2006

This morning I walked to a little coffee shop next to the Royal Pacific Hotel. I knew that this place has free Internet access for customers so it was a chance to google for “hong kong internet cafe” and try to find proper internet cafes.

After my time was up (I also wrote the 107 blog there) I left and walked back towards Nathan Road to find a proper Internet Cafe. I could not help it but had to pop into Sweet Dynasty Restaurant again which is not far from Royal Pacific Hotel on Canton Road. It’s a place that specialises on Deserts and their menu starts with a few pages of them. I had Tofu with fresh Mango there yesterday which comes in a steaming bowl and looks rather pretty (they use dry ice I think) but I wanted to try their Swallows Nest Deserts today.

Since It was late lunch time (ok it was around 3pm) I de3cided to have some Congee first.
I picked Sweet Dynasty Congee with Meat Balls, Pigs Tribe, Preserved Egg and Spicy Pork.
It was very tasty indeed and a pretty big bowl for 32 HKD. For those who don’t know Preserved Egg, I don’t know exactly how they make it, it tastes interesting but it looks rather revolting 😉 It’s like a boiled egg except the egg while is translucent brown and the yegg yolk is – dare I say it – dark greenish colored. Not what you would normally consider a healthy looking egg 🙂

After the congee I picked Stewed Swallows Nest Soup in Coconut Milk.
It’s a desert (they also had it waith Walnut soup, Almond soup and Raw Cane Sugar Soup I think) and was quite nice though IMHO didn’t quite justify the high price of 200HKG. Still I had to try it..

Hmmm, I wonder what’s for dinner.. 😀

107: Hong Kong

Friday, March 24th, 2006

I arrived in Hong Kong yesterday but due to lack of Internet Cafes and limited online time allowance at the one I am at right now (I get chucked out now after 15 minutes) I must continue this later ..

All I can say is: Roasted Goose, Barbecued Pork, Coconut Milk with Sago and Tofu with fresh Mangoo….. all within a few hours of arrival here in Bangkok! Also had some unidentified deep fried things on skewers (think it was crayfish or similar) which was rather tasty.

I’m in Heaven 😀
