Haggle haggle, smoke smoke, chang chang. Bangkok it is then.
Saturday, June 14th, 2008That’s right, we got to Bangkok. All has been going relatively swimmingly. Yesterday Lauren and I found our way to Kaosan road asap and drank enough to give us both hangovers in the morning. Easy times, easy times. Until today of course.
Today was a friggin nightmare. We booked up our first excursion to get us to Laos in the north. This takes us via a whole bunch of sweet stuff. Tiger temple, floating markets and bike rides around various temples being a big part of it. Even more exciting, when we get to Chang Mai we’re off into the jungle on a trek. Lauren point blank refused to do the full three day bad boy and to a degree I could see her point, there being two major factors in this. Firstly, we haven’t spent enough time on a beach yet to justify turning our trip into a full on survival type adventure, I’m still feeling the after stress of taking orders at TGI fridays, and secondly, our trip has only just begun, I don’t feel hardened enough yet to be throwing myself in that deep.
That sorted, we’ve decided to go for the day trek, we still get to ride (sedated) elephants and I get to mooch around the jungle shitting myself every time I see, or think I see, a snake. Also included is a bamboo rafting experience which I just know Lauren will hate.
After some days in Chang Mai we’re heading East to the Laos border. Then the famous slow boat is going to chug us down the Mekhong, good times. Then we’re kicking about in Laos until our visa runs up.
Just listen to the enthusiasm, we’ll check this post later when the actual events happen and see how well they match up.
For now, take care all.
