Loosing Gracefully

I am going to put all of my faith in you folk back home. I genuinely hope, with all my heart, that someone other than Lauren and I watched the 64kg Olympic boxing match between the Dominican Republic and France. It was astounding.

I’m not overly keen on boxing, never have been, but this was a real rocky versus Mr. T/Dolf Lungrum/Apollo Creed/Rocky 5, type fight with the Dominican Republic guy getting battered around the ring just to pull it all back in the last round and take the win.

This isn’t what attracted Lauren and me to this fight though.

Upon realizing he had lost from such a significant lead, the French fighter started crying. He then started throwing a tantrum, right in the middle of the ring. He pushed a cameraman aside and wailed into the arms of his trainer, who clearly felt very embarrassed for his pupil. This wasn’t enough for the French pugilist though, as the relatively humble Dominican Republic boxer came for the customary handshake in the middle of the ring, only for the French guy to forcibly push him away. When it came to the ref. calling both fighters to the middle once more to raise the victor’s arm to the crowd, the French boxer was still crying, trying to shake free of the ref’s grip.

Lauren and I watched on stunned. I can only hope that more people saw this absolute moron make the biggest fool of himself in front of the biggest audience he is ever likely to fight before. Hopefully some bored computer geek types will pick up on it and it will be on youtube a billion times before the French fighter can be consoled further.

Bangkok still remains the same, this time with slightly fewer people in it. We both sent back some packages of unused clothes today too, according to the helpful lady in the shop, they should reach home after we have been in Melbourne for approximately 2 weeks.
