The other bits…

…That we have achieved on Koh Tao are legion. So long as one considers walking to the shops after a long day spent laying beside a sun drenched pool as a variety of experiences. Lauren is raving about the shopping here for clothes so last Monday we developed an incentive to save money which we could spend on whatever we wanted, guilt free. Cunningly, we have named it the Monday Incentive. I think there’s a very high chance I’ll end up spending mine on the finer things the island has to offer. Beer, for example.

I’ve also picked up some Bhuddist teachings book, you have to, when you’re out here really don’t you? Otherwise I won’t be half as smug as I could be when we finally return.

Other than that we have spent the days with our buddies the Irish girls, another girl called Ellisia (sp!) and a few other folk who are becoming more recognisable with each passing day.

We are avoiding as much as we can the super-wholesome divers. The vast majority of people you see around who are the adult equivalent of the scouts. They all lead blameless Blue Peter presenter style lives (ignoreing Richard Bacon of course,) and are generally very nice people. On the boat I got talking to some of them and they really are nice. I’m like the person in the zombie movie who gets bitten but manages to hide it and not turn straight away, even though the zombification is inevitable. Lauren is going to turn around one day and I’m going to be insisting we go to bed at 9p.m. ‘cos I have some voluntary work to do in the morning.

Lauren is claiming to be T-total, even now as I write she reenforces her resolution. I think it has a direct correlation to the money she is trying to save for a new dress.  Lauren is very pretty.

I’m advanced, me!

Apologies to all for the recent tardiness of my blogging, the reasons for which being twofold, firstly, we’re on a paradise island, there’s only so much I can annoy everyone by telling them I’ve been relaxing by a pool all day, and secondly, due to our relative stability, Lauren and I are using this as an opportunity to save some cash and therefore internet is a weekly option for me now.

Oh, and where exactly did the 1st of August come from?! Out of nowhere, thats where! Suddenly it’s days until my 23rd and our trip has already begun to near the 2 month stage, holy gucamoley batman, things go fast don’t they?

Enough blathering.

I began my advanced diving yesterday. It’s like the big brother to the diving course I completed a few weeks back. Although I sung her praises at the time (and still do) I am no longer being taught by Flavia of Adventure Diving. I don’t for one moment assume that anyone other than mine or Lauren’s family actually read this but just on the offchance that someone has ended up here while actually trying to download music/find hair regrowth cream/look for porn, I’d like to emphasise that for open water courses, Flavia is the way to go, she is much more patient and understanding of not being able to achive things instantly.

For advanced diving, though, go with Asia Divers. It has a much more comradery feel, as well as being much larger, and the absolute winner of all things is that yesterday at around 10 meters or so, we had finished our training and our instructor, a friendly ex-pat called Paul, wrote on his magical underwater slate-writing thingy ‘Kung Fu!’

We spent the next 10 minutes doing slow-motion matrix style kung fu moves while breathing underwater, it rocked!

Tonight I’m off on a night dive, which I’m only midly apprehensious (sp!) about. Tomorrow morning I’m going on my deep dive to 30 meters and another lesson which I won’t bore you with.
