Leaving Roatan

Yesterday (the 11th) we left Roatan. There were a lot of mixed feelings about leaving. We certainly had a great time there, and it was very relaxing. Our place was on the ocean, with a great view of a beautiful, white sand beach. And the diving was wonderful. The reefs there are in very nice conditions, and we saw a lot. All in all, it is one of the favorite places that I have been to in the Caribbean. Still, there was a feeling that perhaps we spent longer there than we needed. We were there for 12 days, which will be 2/3 of the time that we are spending in Honduras. Going to a dive resort area that is heavily populated with tourists and ex-pats does not really give you a sense of what a country is really like. On this trip, we want to learn about people, cultures, geography, with fun mixed in. Now I am wondering if we are going to see enough of Honduras to give a good sense of the country. We are now in Coapan Ruinas, in NW Honduras. Though we will be here for 5 nights, I feel we could easily spend longer. In addition, there are other places I would like to visit that we will not have the time to get to. I imagine, though, that I will likely often feel that way about many regions and countries we visit. The whole trip will be a balancing act, and we will undoubtedly feel at times that we did not quite get the balance right.
