Today we left our place and got on some camels for two hours. I can’t remember any of the camel’s names except for moms camel, Jimmy Hendrix. When I first got on the camel I was really worried that I was going to fall off. But after the first minute I was fine. It felt really exotic riding on camels, especially while wearing turbans. It actually wasn’t that hot because we left so late in the day. People are always saying that it is super uncomfortable to ride on a camel, but I didn’t think it was that bad. The two hours passed very quickly. When we got there our guide, Hassan, told us we could climb up the ridge and watch the sun set. So we did, It was extremely tiring walking up the ridge.
About halfway up we noticed that the camera was dead and we only had one battery and one camera, so the rest of the trip in the desert was pictureless. At least we got a few photos. Afterwards we ran down the ridge and ate dinner. The camp cat, Jonas (which I have no Idea how it got out in the middle of the desert) joined us. After that we got ready to go to bed. That night we had decided to sleep under the stars. Mom read Arabian Nights while we worked on going to sleep. In the middle of the night I woke up to go to the bathroom. I looked up and just at the right moment and saw a shooting star fly across the almost white with stars sky. I also saw a small mouse.
The next morning we woke up and had breakfast. Later Bjorn and me climbed to the top of the ridge and I painted and Bjorn drew. Bjorn and me came down and got on the camel to head to a twareg family’s house for lunch. On the way Hassan pointed out animal tracks and showed us some snake eggs. We stayed at the twareg house for about 4 hours. It passed quite fast. The desert has a way to make things go fast. We mostly talked, and discussed Lost in The Twareg house. Hassan came in a few times and talked to us he also told us a series of jokes that were really funny. It went like this: How do you put a camel in a refrigerator in 3 motions? how do you put a elephant in a refrigerator in 4 motions? and the last one is: some lions are having a wedding party. They invite every animal and they are vegetarians. One animal does not come, who is it?* The answers will be at the end of my blog post.
After that we went out and looked around and found a bunch of rocks that looked liked they had fossils in them. I also found a rock that looked like a dinosaur egg, but I call it my fossilized camel poop. After that we had a big couscous for lunch. On the way back Bjorn’s camel kept on sitting down, finally Hassan had to tie a rope around his jaw. After that he stopped.
When we got back to camp there was another German family. This time we had dinner in a tent instead of outside. After that I decided to go out and look for desert mice, Hassan told most of the mice will by the camel chocolate (meaning camel Poop) because they eat the seed from the camel chocolate. He said it with a straight face so I guess he was serious. So I went out and looked for some mice. On the way Jonas joined me. We both went out looking for mice together. I found no mice, even when I checked over by the camel chocolate. That night we decided to sleep in the tent. The next day we got on the camels and headed back. By this time my bottom was sore but it wasn’t that bad. I kind of miss riding the camels.
OK, now for the Joke answers. *#1 How do you put a camel in a refrigerator in three movements? Open the door, Put the camel in, close the door. #2 How do you put an elephant in a refrigerator in 4 movements? Open the door, take the camel out, put the elephant in, and close the door. Now for the last joke: some lions are having a wedding party. they invite every animal and they are vegetarians. One animal does not come, who is it? The elephant, because he’s still in the refrigerator
We are really enjoying the blogs. Your descriptions are so precise and accurate, we feel we are there with you. We miss you all!
I love reading about your travels, and from all four of you reporters! Your first stops were all familiar to me: Honduras, Nicaragua, Norway, London. Morocco is one of those places I hope to visit some day.
Love,
Faith
Those are funny jokes, Emma. I’m glad you were able to ride camels, it sounds like great fun. Since you didn’t get many pictures, maybe you can post your drawings instead? Happy Birthday to Margit!
Great experiences and stories! Enjoy the camels now….I don’t think you’ll get any camel rides here in the U.S. The ‘camel chocolate’ is funny. I think we are going to rent some of the movies you wrote about being filmed in that region of the world. Sounds rather intriguing.
