A posh welcome
I’m sitting in a super fuzzy bathrobe at the moment.
I made the executive decision, being that I am president, vice-president, treasurer and major shareholder in this little round the wolrd venture, to get myself a nice hotel for a couple days.
My last 3 days in Australia were a mixture of overnight bus rides (2), long days waiting for the bus while dealing with my backpack and very little sleep. I killed 12 hours in Sydney my last day, lugging around my pack because none of the hostels would hold it for me without staying there. Since I kinda, sorta slept on the bus I didn’t really feel like paying to store my bag.
Instead, I boistered myself with thoughts of a really nice hotel when I got off the plane that night ,at midnight, in Auckland. And boy did I find myself a nice place!
I’m staying at Sky City…a casino, entertainment, hotel, convention center, hoopla of a place. I even opted for Sky City GRAND, over the regular Sky City Hotel cause why not go all the way to 5 stars while I’m at it.
It’s a fabulous hotel! And I am loving it! Who could disagree with super fuzzy bathrobes?! …and spa praducts in the bathroom …and a fully stocked (and surprisingly cheap) mini-bar …and so forth.
Also not bad is the fact that a 5 star hotel in New Zealand is about a one third of the price of one in New York City.
I’ve got a wireless connection too so I’ll be uploading my Australia pics a little later.
Till then…I’m going to go induldge myself a little more while I can. 🙂
Oh yeah, PS and all that, one of the side affects to staying in a posh little hotel…immigration questions.
I’ve gotten into the habit of putting STUDENT down as my occupation on entry cards, because it just sounds better then UNEMPLOYED.
Well, coming into New Zealand this raised a few eyebrows…in combination of an address of the nicest hotel in the city.
“How is it a student can afford the Sky City Grand?” the officer asked with a raised eyebrow.
And then I had to go on to explain that I was a former (recovering) real estate agent.
And some 20 other questions…
At around 12:30am…
After about 7 hour of sleep in 3 days…
So, I learned something from that one. I will now write INDEPENDANTLY WEALTHY on immigration entry cards. Cause, it’s not like they check anyway, right?

How’s my Independently Wealthy friend doing? Live it up! Is there a spa in the hotel? Nice to see that you are pampering yourself. What is New Zealand like?
I miss you!
