Oops…I almost forgot…

Bran! Dracula’s Castle!
Silly me…

Yesterday I joined the hostel for a trip to Bran and Rasov. 9am saw us leaving the house to a misty grey morning, clouds hiding the mountains, fog hanging in the streets. It drizzled on and off as we drove the 45 minutes south to Rasov, but we were all in a good mood, chatting, laughing and singing along with the radio. Wait, actually come to think of it, maybe I was the only one singing…which would explain the laughing.

Rasov was great. It’s a tiny citadel city that has been restored and people are once again living there. The houses are tiny with low doorways and steep spiral stairs, and placed just so making every angle a great photo. Some of tiny yellow houses are stored selling hand made crafts, and there’s a couple museums. It was nice to walk around, but we were a little hampered by the fact that they were shooting a movie. Oh well…

Quite a Crucifux!

Then it was on to Bran, the don’t miss Transylvania stop…and it certainly looked like no one missed it! It was packed! Seriously, undealwithably packed! You got on line to go in to the castle and, basically, got off line as you tumbled out the door after walking through. The narrow halls and secret passageways bottlenecked everyone into place. God forbid someone stop to take a picture…everyone behind them was forced to stop, creating the line that ran through the castle.

Spooky, but picturesque, Tranyslvania weather

Still, it was really pretty…and while Dracula never lived there it was suitably spooky on this cold, grey day. I’m actually getting over being upset by things and developing patience. It wasn’t the ideal setting, but it was actually kind of funny in it’s own right.

The walk back to the minibus was a little less funny. The skies opened up and left me utterly drenched. I looked like I’d just stepped out of the shower, my hair dripping wet. But, it’s my own fault for not having an umbrella…so again, I can’t be too upset. The drive back to the hostel was a little chilly, but oh well.
Back in Brasov the weather was pretty bad all day, and the town full to the brim with weddings (I saw at least 6 brides on a short walk to get lunch) most of the guests stayed in and hung out. Great people, as I mentioned in my previous post. I didn’t do much yesterday, but I really had a good time doing it. 🙂
