The Plan
Okay, so after some major research and an unbelievable amount of changes, I think I have decided on my route. As of RIGHT NOW it looks like this:
Tampa – Auckland – Christchurch – Adelaide – Sydney – Saigon – (Cambodia) – Bangkok (Thai Islands) – Hong Kong – Los Angeles – Tampa
I will fly from Tampa on October 13th to Auckland, New Zealand. I will spend about 8 days there then onto Christchurch, NZ for about 8 days. Then I get to visit Shevahn (met on Contiki European Magic Tour) in Adelaide, OZ for two weeks. We will be traveling the Great Ocean Road and whatever else she has in store:) Then onto Sydney for a quick look at the city. Then a few days in Saigon (a.k.a. Ho Chi Mihn City) – I will be joining a tour here. I just don’t feel confident enough to travel S.E. Asia on my own completely eventhough I have done Europe twice by myself. The parents are freaking about it anyway. So, the tour is as follows:
Day 1-2 Ho Chi Minh City Take to the streets of Ho Chi Minh City in rickshaws to explore this exhilarating hub of southern Vietnam.
Day 3 Chao Doc Travel by riverboat across the border to Vietnam and the Mekong Delta town of Chao Doc. Spend a wonderful day watching rural life slip by.
Day 4-5 Phnom Penh Experience the changing times of Phnom Penh at the beautiful Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda. The lively city markets offer a stark contrast to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the ‘Killing Fields’.
Day 6-7 Angkor Wat Drive through rural Cambodia to Siem Reap, the base for visiting the magnificent remains of the ancient Khmer empire of Angkor. A boat trip on Lake Tonle Sap is optional.
Day 8-9 Bangkok Bustling Bangkok boasts grand palaces, temples, frenetic streets, peaceful enclaves and a colourful array of shops and markets.
After, I will be going to Chiang Mai for a few days (Thai cooking class or massage or both!!) then to Southern Thailand to see some of the islands. Apparently, my flight also includes a layover in Hong Kong. Still working on this part of the trip. This will take me to mid-December!
I am pretty sure this is the final itinerary….
