French or Spanish

Last weekend we had a short holiday in Maffe which is a cosy village in Wallonia: the French-speaking part of Belgium.

We had a very nice stay in the hotel ‘Au Manoir de Vallèes‘ over there, especially since the village of Maffe is located in one of the more scenic parts of the Wallonian Ardennes that’s unkown to most tourists.

But the strangest experience was that we sort of have lost all of our (very basic) French-speaking abilities, since we’ve travelled in Spanish-speaking territory for 6 months. Every time we had tot speak French we ended up saying something in Spanish automatically. That was very confusing….

At least we now can say that our Spanish is that good that it is now a lot better than our French….

Just like traveling with a lot of different nationalities, you’ll probably end up speaking a mixture of english, spanish and “german with a dutch accent.
