Despatch from the Road

Quick update.

I’m staying at the Hiroshima City Youth House. The internet here may be the cheapest (100 ¥/15 min) but it’s also the slowest and it’s standing room only, so I’m still not blogging. The rooms on the other hand are 4-star-luxury, complete with toileteries. I thought it would be all about handholding and hymn singing, but while the place has a curfew (midnight) there are ashtrays in the rooms and a note about where to find cigarette machines. For about 15 quid that’s quite a bargain!

Lonely though. I guess the Lonely Planet doesn’t list the place. Sometimes you’ve gotta ask.

Some pictures are up on Flickr now. I worked like a slave uploading about a hundred photographs in 1 hour from the only USB in town yesterday, but there wasn’t (and isn’t) time to rotate or describe them.

I hope one day I’ll be back to normal service, but I’ve said it before: blogging and travel rarely mix (unless you’re lugging a labtop around, plus a big bag of cables and adapters. And don’t travel in difficult countries). Who’d thought that I need one of the damn things in Japan?
