Dec. 14/15 – Mexico, Baja

Day 135/136 – Today after our Spanish lessons we headed for La Paz to get some work done on our VW and the computer. We went to Exacto, a computer store, in hopes of getting our laptop working continuously. They were very patient with us not being able to speak much Spanish and they spoke some English. We found out the hard drive was losing contact with the computer because when he re-clipped the hard drive it worked fine. Later, we realized the clip isn’t clamping as tight as it used to and the hard drive becomes slightly disconnect from the computer when it gets bumped around. I know laptops are supposed to be dealt with carefully, but when it’s in the car and you are going down dirt roads everyday, what do you expect? At least we know how to fix it now and it won’t hinder our website anymore 😉

Sunrise in La Paz

We headed to the beach just northeast of the ferry terminal outside of La Paz to sleep for the night. You just can’t beat free camping on such beautiful location. Next morning we went into town early, before sunrise, for the VW to get the timing adjusted and our propane valve for the stove and refrigerator looked at. Geraldo’s VW did a great job timing it and we are coming back in a week or two to get our shocks and a few other things repaired or updated. The propane valve will have to be looked at by another person. These guys are the best mechanics I’ve ever been to (even in the states) and I wish we could take them along with us on the rest of our trip! I wonder if we could work something out? It is hard to find someone you can trust to work on your car, especially when you don’t speak the native language.

Still, you’d think laptops would be made to be a little more hearty than they are. Glad to see you got yours back in working order.
