My own Inka trail, part I

July 27th, 2007

_MG_4151.JPG

Perú! Land of the Inkas and the guinea pig 🙂 Many many people come to this country with one goal: Machu Picchu. What many don´t know is how extremely expensive it is. For me it was like armed robbery! That´s why, asking around and armed with lots of time, courage and patience, I started what I call the modern Inka trail or the Cholo trail ;). Do you really think an Inka would pay US$ 350?? I doubt it! Read the rest of this entry »

_MG_3648.JPG

The Isla del Sol, one of the holiest sites for the Inka culture is really close to Copacabana, a small little town near La Paz. I only spent a day over there, but it was enough to enjoy a lovely walk on the island where the Sun, supreme God of the Inkas, was born Read the rest of this entry »

_MG_3300.JPG

For Steve, aka Chola pass heroe 🙂

I still remember Steve´s words while we were watching the sun set on the Kala Pattar (5550 meters) over the Everest: “I think this will be as high as we´ll get”. For all this time I thought the same, but I didn´t know about the Huayna Potosí Read the rest of this entry »

I also have to admit that it´s the best ride I´ve ever done. You start at 4700m and finish at 1200m! 65 Km. of downhill with a drop of 3500 meters in altitute!!! Dangerous or not it´s a trip Read the rest of this entry »

What´s been happening

July 14th, 2007

Hola chicos, sorry no updates on Bolivia, great fun of course, but doing lots and lots. I´m in La Paz right now, but probably next post will be in 4 days or so, because tomorrow I´ll cycle 64 Km. downhill dropping from 4000 meters above sea level to 1200 m!!!! jajajaja yep it´s the world´s most dangerous road and I´ll be cycling down it :).
Then the next day will be the opposite, I´ll be climbing up hill to the Huayna Potosí for 2 days, summiting it at the stunning height of 6088 meters above the ocean!!! I never thought going up that high, especially after the Himalayas, but isn´t it great??
ok, have to run wish me luck going down and send strength to my legs to go up 🙂
love
simon =)
