Weekend hangovers

This weekend has been great.

On Friday night we all went out for Carrie’s going away party at Zoo, a club in Leicester Square. I kind of stupidly forgot my ID, not least because we’d been pre-drinking so we didn’t have to buy drinks there. All I had was my Oyster card and both my Aussie and UK keycards, but as Carrie was so loud and Lija was questioning the bouncer about scanning our IDs, he just turned to me and said “How old are you?” I said 22 and he let me in. Ok, so I’m off by a month but it is coming up soon!

The music was alright, danceable in the least. I was still in flats because I had no heels, but at least I didn’t have Lija’s blisters at the end of the night! I don’t know where the time went, usually I get sick of being out by about 1ish, but we left the house at 9.30pm and didn’t get home till 3 in the morning.

A couple of Carrie’s other friends were there too, they were nice. We spent more time dancing with them because the boys were, well, boys. That being said most of the club was full of sleazy guys, we had one come up and try and put his hand around my waist and then did the same to Lija twenty minutes later, to which we removed it and told him to f*ck off. Some guys you just have to give more than a hint.

Lija was the responsible one tonight as Carrie and I needed a little calming down. When we left Zoo we were waiting outside for a few of the others and were singing at the top of our lungs. Of course Leicester Square is a main hub of night activity so at 3 there were quite a few people listening. We were a little noisy on the night bus home too. Luckily the drive wasn’t that far. Hehe

Saturday, June 23 Needless to say Saturday began with a baaad hangover and after we rolled out of bed at 11 we went to the café next door for breakfast. I had a French roll with egg, bacon, sausage and baked beans. Oh my god it was delicious – I haven’t had bacon and eggs since I left home.

We took the tube over to London Bridge to check out the Borough Markets. My list said it was mostly organic, very true. We bought a heap of vegies – mushies, spinach leaves, sweet potato, some fruit, all the stuff we’re missing. We even found a place with Jersey Royals.

And Gran, for someone who hates potatoes, you’re Royals definitely made an impression on Lija, because she insisted on getting some for dinner! We found this delicious balsamic vinegar, and weisswurst. We had organic ice cream – maple and walnut, and blackberry were the flavours I chose and they went down so well. The meats certainly don’t look as nice as ours back home.

I finally found a pair of burgundy heels that fit me in a British size 8 – and they were FIVE POUNDS! How awesome is that?! I’m going to wear them to the boy’s birthday do on Wednesday night.

From the market we walked and bussed up to Leicester Square where there was a free festival called West End Live. It was a combination of stalls and they showcased acts on a big stage from some of the West End’s best theatre productions. We were lucky enough to see a scene from Stomp – I’ll post some vids for you Kieran, it was awesome and we can’t wait to go see the real thing! The whole crowd, and Leicester Square really isn’t that big, everyone was packed in and tapping and swaying – it pumped right through you.

We got our photo taken all dressed up as chefs from the new Disney Pixar film Ratatouille, and I got mine done in the Mamma Mia! poster. We couldn’t get showbags because they ran out – these stupid kids were running in and out getting extra bags. But oh well, we still enjoyed ourselves there.

Only half the house went out tonight, but we watched Take the Lead, which wasn’t too bad except the DVD player was dusty so it kept skipping.Afterwards we watched a bit of the Glastonbury Festival. It’s a big four day thing where you sleep in tents and watch bands all day. It was rained out but that didn’t stop anything. Gumboots are the latest fashion! Tickets sold out within 90 minutes, but we were stocked that we got to see The Killers play live on TV. They even showed the whole set, I think we were up till about 1 watching them play. It was good stuff, the encore continued with another 3 songs.

Sunday, June 24

Another sleep in, but we went out to Camden Market today. It is a lot of rock, punk and goth clothes, shoes, and gear. There was heaps to see, and Lija bought a top for 3 pounds and a jacket for 15. I saw a shirt I liked, but as Lija said, I’m not an impulse buyer so if I really want it I’ll go back another day. We had chinese for lunch which was nice, my thai red curry left my nose running though. And you know when a background noise becomes so prominent you can hear it clear as day? The Asian lady who was serving customers would ask Rice or Noodle? Continuing (because you get a choice of two or three dishes) with “And den?…and den?…and den and den and den?” If any of you aren’t as cluey to pick this up, she sounded just like the Asian take-away lady from Dude, Where’s My Car? Lija and I were sitting there pissing ourselves it was just so funny!

We had to walk up to Chalk Farm tube because Camden was an exit only station for the weekend. There’s always work on the tube, a delay here, a person under a train there – literally, they tell you over the loudspeaker “The central line has severe delays because of a person under the train at whichever station”. There is a board outside every station that is constantly being updated, with over twenty different tube lines every one is never working at the same time.

We got off at Liverpool tube to find the Spitalfield markets but couldn’t! So we were going to walk home via Brick Lane, where Carrie told us there were some vintage shops. Also ended up seeing the Brick Lane market, a few interesting things there. People selling pirate DVDs on every corner. The boys have bought a few before – I’ve already seen Shrek 3 and The Number 23, but they are pretty bad picture quality.

We cooked up pork chops with some other vegies tonight which was a really nice meal, I think we’ve both been craving for some real meat. We are such carnivores! Everyone did their own thing for dinner because there were so many of us. Simon has his mate Brenton staying for the week. When Simon leaves at the end of the week Brenton will be living with us. Kayne, who is already dossing, has his sister here, who has a thing with Dwain, so that’s another two who aren’t paying.

Although at the end of the week we won’t know what to do, it’ll be so quiet! Everyone is leaving Thursday I think, we have a girl Carrie found who seems nice enough, and Simon’s brother as well, so it’ll just be five of us. Instead of 8 – 10!
