Pristine Prussia Cove

So I left Newquay on Saturday morning for the silent reverie of Prussia Cove. Of course nothing is easy with just getting there, the weekends place strains on the national rail as ‘improvement works’ take over the lines.

After an hour long wait at Par, I took a train one stop to St Austell where a replacement bus was waiting to take me to Penzance. I had texted John to say there was a possibility that I may be late, but I arrived fairly close to time despite the slower journey by bus.

That eventually lead me here, sitting on top of the maintenance shed roof, laptop leaning on crossed legs, a small red-breasted robin keeps flying over to check out the ledge, which forever gets used as an outdoors sunning picnic area for the few of us who like to lounge. The tide is coming up fast, the water almost reaching the top of the nearby cliff in front  of the main house, Port en Halls, currently a dark grey, not still but not very choppy either. The coves and jutting cliffs form the horizon, with Praha Beach barely sticking out behind the more recent cliffs. There’s a slight wind that is beginning to catch as dusk sets in.

It’s my third night already, but the days drag out into one another with equally long nights of drunken revelry or much needed sleep taking over. I haven’t done any real work so far, but as the students all arrived yesterday, so tonight will definitely feel like hard work.

I would love another day like yesterday – it was gorgeous. Caedie, Sascha, Immy and I walked along the rocks to the cliff path that leads to Praha where we sat at the pub for a while, basking in the sun. I even had a pink tinge by the end of the day. It was one of those perfect almost summer days, gearing up eventually for the months ahead.
