One week into January
Its 7.30 on Sunday morning and I’m already on my way to work. I’d like to say I’m halfway there but going from east London to Sth west London is not the quickest journey, especially when l have to swap for the national rail.
I went to this place yesterday for six hours and apart from eating and falling asleep in her chair – well yeah that was it. I sat and read and finished my book. So today I brought a new book and my knitting, and chocolate coated coffee beans from Alice for Christmas to snack on. I also grabbed one of the coffee bags to keep me sane and not fall asleep myself.
At least it’s back to stimulate my mind in the office tomorrow with a piece I’m writing about how to fill in a tax return. It’s not quite sarcasm because I’ll have to learn for my own return. Also, we have two new interns beginning tomorrow so it should be fun squishing seven people into Jasmine’s apartment!
Wouldn’t you believe my luck – or lack thereof – there’s rail works from Waterloo so l have to catch a replacement bus – probability of being on time – slim to none. I have called ahead though.
I do realise its January right now which at home is not only beach weather but also camp month. What fun! I can see Mitch getting into the Chocolate cake and Bec chasing all the boys. Olivia will be climbing a tree and Bethany will be giggling her head off at everything!

What I’m knitting at the moment is a practice piece for some gloves I want to (learn how to) make. It’s 4-ply, so quite thin wool, on four double-ended needles. The practice piece is smaller to gauge an idea of what the bigger piece will look like, only it currently is about ten centimeters in diameter and ten centimeters long, in fact, it kind of looks like a willy warmer! Hehe I wonder who could benefit from such a gift?
I have started reading The Kite Runner, which has just come out at the movies. I’ve read three chapters and I’m hooked. It’s funny how I can go from reading chick-lit to fiction based on fact. Although the last book I finished yesterday was The Friday Night Knitting Club, which was really good. So good I cried at the end!
Wow, it sounds like I really don’t get out, don’t get me wrong, we’ve been out enough in the last few weeks. New Year’s Eve was spent at a masquerade party in Fulham – Lija, Kristy, Kristy’s cousin Heather and me. We had a blast – I wore my Venetian mask with a purple strapless dress I got for 70% off at Debenhams in the sales (oh, and the stupid plastic in the bodice came out so I took it back and got my 40 pounds refunded) so now I can go back to Debenhams and buy something nice.
We got home at about half 4 and I had to get up and be at work for 10am. It was only an hour so I got to go home and sleep it off afterwards. And boy did I need to, Kristy ordered snake bites, which I’ve never had, beer with red cordial and cider, and they didn’t quite go down alright.
I’ve finally paid off my loan which is a good feeling, now I can start on the credit card, although it doesn’t help that I keep adding to that oops! Lija bought tickets for next week’s Chelsea game, and her birthday trip skiing in Italy is coming up in a few weeks, and we’ve just booked flights to spend St Patrick’s Day (in March) in Dublin.
There are a few more things I want to do this year, but I can assure you all that I’ll be home before 2008 is over. That doesn’t mean I won’t begin planning the next big trip though 🙂
