OKTOBERFEST!!!

After I packed my bags, our hostel’s daily screening is at 10.30am, so I cleared the TV room and sat watching until the bus came.

Eventually people couldn’t help themselves and filtered back in to watch it too. Steve was amused watching me restrain myself from singing along out loud! We got the bus straight to Munich for the night, and headed down to Oktoberfest in, after Saltzburg’s beautiful weather, pouring rain – nooo!

Despite the weather, people filled the giant beer tents by the thousands, bar maids had whistles to fight through the crowds, but you wouldn’t want to get in their way, one guy did and she hit him hard while still holding about ten steins in her other hand!

They were cooking chickens by the hundreds. People were packed into every available space, and in the middle on high stages were the bands. Scattered around the many beer halls were the carnival rides, food stalls, rotating ‘merry go round’ bars and even more rides!

It got dark, and it got wetter. So wet Lija and I were squelching in our sneakers. We grabbed crepes, I had a baileys and chocolate one, and headed back to the hostel to put dry socks and plastic bags on our feet between our shoes. It worked too!

We went out to Thai for dinner with Steve, Marc and Guy, who Lija and Lis met in Saltzburg. Then went back to the Wombar and partied till 2ish with Josh and Jeremy we met in Amsterdam, and Josh’s older brother Craig and his mate Rowan. Three long island iced teas and I was spinning. A good taste of Oktoberfest but I’m coming for longer next year!
