Norwich, the medieval town
We went up to Norwich, well to tell you the truth, we found tickets to Norwich for three quid, so that was our destination for the day.
But you know, a day out of London can be nice, and it’s strange to think people can live so far away in a country and still travel in to London on a daily basis for work. The train ride was only two hours, and as we headed away from the city, lakes were frozen over, and grass and trees were layered thinly with snow.
The weather, because we were close to the ocean, was on par with the chills we had in Lille. But we still managed to walk around and not completely freeze to the ground. It was a really nice relaxing day, we sat in a coffee shop reading the newspaper with hot chocolates, and had a late lunch of tapas at La Tasca – baked aubergene, chorizo, chicken wings, a salad and potato gems with a spicy salsa, that we slowly enjoyed.
We also took a stroll along the river which led us to the cathedral, which has the second tallest spire in Britain. It also has a dead body buried standing up, the deceased’s orders – he thought that when God called for the pearly gates to be open, if he was standing up he could get there quicker – bizarre!
We went to the Anglican cathedral as well, which was smaller but just as nice. A bit of late afternoon shopping – Norwich supposedly has the best shopping around – and we were back on the train to come home. An enjoyable day out somewhere new.
