Books and Chinese Lanterns

This week has just been a big blur of travelling, I’ve been going from shifts in Notting Hill in the west, to Archway and Cockfosters in the North, to South Kensington and Chelsea in the south west and of course I live in the east so you can imagine what that’s like! No? Tiring is one word.

Also educational. I’ve been reading so much – on the tube, on the bus, I finished a whole book in one day on Wednesday – one day! It’s crazy. We’ve only got a couple of books left and then we’ll have to go down to the library otherwise we’ll be taking one home with us!

The weather hasn’t been too bad here, I got a free brolley when I picked up the Evening Standard the other day, already managed to break the top wooden part off – I have no luck with brolleys! But luckily the weather has been nice – so nice I can currently hear the ice cream man driving around playing Greensleeves outside, and I’ve worn my sunnies twice in the last week!

I was feeling so frustrated being stuck in a square box, and a few work related disasters that I was left to deal with, that I texted Lija last night and said shall we go out? All the Aussies are still back home so it was just the two of us but by the time I finished work and Lija got into the city it was late, but still early for clubbing so we wandered a bit to see what else was on and around.

I woke up this morning to find one big Chinese lantern over my ceiling light and a row of smaller ones on my wall, which I think I hung up at about half three when we got home, obviously a good night! We went to this place called Verve in Covent Gardens for a couple of hours and made quite a night of it. We got a bit peckish just after two and headed up to Chinatown, where the workers were still taking down the rows and rows of Chinese lanterns for the end of Chinese New Year. They were just giving them away so we happily indulged in several each, and had to hang them on the chairs in the Chinese restaurant and then lug them home with us afterwards on the lovely No 25 night bus that takes us pretty much to our back door.

We both headed out to the gym at half ten this morning, which is not a bad effort after last night, and then straight over to Chrisp St for our cheap market vegies to lug home in our backpacks. Now guess what? Yep, off to Archway (north) for two hours work, then two hours in Kennington (south) before dragging myself home when I finish at 10.
