Iran for the Cup!

Iran.jpg

Here we are at the start of a new literary adventure. Not sure if this is going to work, but here are some guidelines – let me know what you think and email me for the password to make a contribution once you’ve got your teams…

Ideal number of contributors would be 16. This is because there are 32 teams and the idea is that we get 2 each, one from each of the following groups roughly divided between group favourites and no-hopers.

So first off – Choose Your Teams

Hopefuls Group
Germany, Poland, Sweden, Paraguay, Argentina, Netherlands, Portugal, Mexico, Italy, Czech Republic, Brazil, Croatia, France, Switzerland, Spain, Ukraine

No Hopers
Costa Rica, Ecuador, England, Trinidad & Tobago, Cote d’Ivoire, Serbia & Montenegro, Angola, Iran, Ghana, USA, Japan, Australia, Korea, Togo, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia

Some people already have an idea of who they want, but I’ll start by going for Argentina and Iran (I’m learning Parsi as I already speak fluent Spanglish). I may call the Shrine (http://blogs.bootsnall.com/K_Eric77/?p=147) out of retirement for The Argies, and perhaps call on Satan for my second choice.

Initial grabs for teams are on a first-come, first-served basis in the comments section of this post. Once you’ve chosen you get the password.

The idea after that is fairly free (the more bizarre, the better), but the minimum expectation is that you will be doing match reports for your chosen teams, no matter how brief or surreal. You’ll be expected to know your squad inside out and be able to speak with authority on the country when abused by fellow contributors. All are expected to do a bit of background on chosen teams/countries ahead of the start and invent an original nickname (one for each team and one for yourself as you’ll need to sign off each post).

The travel aspect will involve setting the scenes for each match you ‘attend’ whether virtually or in person, perhaps even whisking yourself to the country involved for an evening.

Wildly irrelevant posts will be encouraged, as will decent betting tips (so with this bit Mike need not concern himself).

A couple of rules:

No editing other people’s post or comments.

No Time Wasters! (…as they say in the personals columns – not that I ever read them, you understand.)

Hope this comes off. We publish July 10th.
