A little update on Laos

I’ve been a little slow at posting on the blog lately. I just wrote three new posts (I’ll finish Bangkok soon…)

We are in Luang Nam Tha, Laos. Once again, entering a new country is like entering a new universe. It is wonderful here; the people are so friendly, everything about it is endearing. Yesterday, we took one of the bumpiest and dustiest bus rides of my life, 9 hours on a dirt road, completely under construction. We stopped for a flat tire about an hour into the trip, then multiple times later for other road hazards. Each time we just shuffled off the bus to see what the problem was about and people stood calmly in the blazing sun awaiting a resolution. We past small villages of wooden or bamboo houses, no electricity, but full of people with smiling faces.

Today we rented bikes and made a 25km circle on bumpy dirt roads to visit many little local villages. We saw bamboo paper drying in the sun and bought a silk scarf from a girl sitting at her loom. Tomorrow, we are going to begin another trek, 3 days through hills, forest and villages.
