On Being a TEFL Course Trainer

I must say that this has been a very interesting and fulfilling job. I didn’t expect to be where I am now when I first arrived in Mexico almost 6 years ago. But, opportunities and offers kept coming, so little by little I moved from the intention to write freelance travel pieces, to TEFL-ing, to being the lead TEFL course instructor at Teachers Latin America
The best part of the last 6 years is having met so many different people from all over the world.

I simply can’t imagine permanently going back home to Canada…it just seems so small now. Don’t get me wrong…TEFLing abroad doesn’t mean I’ve been on a permanent tour of the globe. Far from it. Compared to most TEFLers out there, my direct experience has been limited to Mexico, Mexicans, and a handful of Koreans who live in Mexico City.

No, it’s more about how the world opened up and new roads presented themselves once I’d left the confines of the cold north. Funny how in Canada one can be surrounded by foreigners and immigrants yet remain far from the culture they bring and the places they originate from.

No, I can’t imagine going back. I don’t think the mukluks fit anymore.
