Tim Cahill: Lost in Yellowstone, His Own Backyard

Outside magazine founding editor and frequent National Geographic Adventure contributor Tim Cahill celebrates his lack of sense of direction and gift for misadventure in his spirited new book, Lost in My Own Backyard, which details his frontcounty ramblings and intrepid backcountry explorations.

Tim also penned a wonderful, gut-busting introduction to my Lonely Planet Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks book last spring.

He's subsequently called the book "The Very Best Practical Guide to Yellowstone," and reviewed it as: "A lively, well-written and comprehensive guide to the best place on Earth, all done up in the accessible and authoritative Lonely Planet manner. It is the only book on the area some visitors will ever need...."

I beg to differ with the last bit, since Tim's new book is a must-read for all would-be Yellowstone explorers.

SF Chronicle 'Hidden National Parks' Piece

tr_grand_tetons_ho_t.gif

The SF Chronicle recently published my piece on hidden Grand Teton National Park.

The story was also picked up by Fodor's Right This Way travel blog editor John Rambow.

Apparently, the Miami Herald will be running it in a couple of months as well.

New Lonely Planet Bolivia Book

LP_bolivia5_thumb.jpg

Morgan and I co-authored the new 5th edition of Lonely Planet's Bolivia country guide, which hit the shelves in April.

Condé Nast Traveler praised the book as "friendly, thoughtful, sympathetic...the best companion to the country."

French and Italian translations will be out by the end of 2004.
