A little history of Jenny

Born September 15, 1977 in Coos Bay, Oregon, I have been plagued with a chronic case of wanderlust my entire life. Perhaps it started when my parents decided to set out on their own adventure, leaving Coos Bay aboard a 29-foot sailboat with Pete, my baby brother and me and cruising the West Coast of the United States, Mexico and the Southeastern U.S. before settling in Jacksonville, FL.

25 years after that first grand adventure, I’m still on the move….After graduating from high school in Jacksonville,FL I went to Boston University, graduated in 1999 with a degree in Marine Biology. Moved out to San Francisco after graduation and worked for an internet marketing company for a year and a half. When the dot-com boom busted, I emptied my piggy bank and went backpacking through western Europe for 6 months. Fell in love with Barcelona and Prague and vowed to move to one of them one day. After I came back to the States, I started planning my next adventure. This time to South America. I flew to Buenos Aires, traveled through Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil and spent 8 weeks in a tent in Patagonia. Some crazy Germans convinced me not to come back, so I began an illustrious career as a profesor de ingles in Santiago, Chile. Came home about 9 months later for the birth of my beautiful niece Skylar (January 2003.)

After working a few months in Jacksonville, I got the travel itch again and I planned a real move to Europe. So in March of 2003, I moved to Prague, Czech Republic. There, I did my TEFL certification, and I worked for a great school until June 2004. I met the love of my life, Fabien (a Frenchie and co-owner of this blog) in Prague. He was working on a 6-month project (he’s an IT guy) for a Czech/French insurance company. He was sent to Paris in March 2003, and I moved there after I finished my contract in Prague. For the last year, I worked as a freelancer, teaching business English, editing resumes and cover letters, learning French (je parle tres bien le francais) and planning the next adventure.

Fabien and I have decided to take a year off and travel the other half of the world. We are starting our trip in Prague (at a Swiss/Czech wedding) in September, then we’ll travel through Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia. On October 24, we are flying to Delhi, India. We are planning to travel by plane, train, boat, foot, camel, horse…through Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and China.

I’m sure most of our friends and family think we are crazy for doing this, but we are following our hearts and our dreams.
