Day 156: Carter's Beach

In the morning we had bacon and eggs for breakfast, as a treat. We drove to Buller Gorge, amidst a beautiful landscape of hills, the mountains in the background, and the Buller river on the right.

Of course Keiron, who was becoming friends with Doug, didn't have time to appreciate this on all the winding roads... (I'm afraid I am a bit chicken about driving. Keiron doesn't make me because he get scared when I drive. hihi).

14 km out of Murchison, we came to New Zealand's longest swing bridge, a steel, wobbly contraption suspended over the river. We had to walk over it to make a nice little 15 minute walk, and then came back to do a 'tandem comet line ride' back to the other end. Basically we were strapped into a contraption and then hurled across to the other end, with the guy swinging us around a bit extra for fun. It was really cool but over way too quickly.

We then drove to Carter's Beach, near Westport, which has a very nice top 10 with the (nearly empty) beach right at it's doorstep. After we had set up camp, we drove to Tauranga Bay and had a nice walk. We saw the seals basking in the afternoon sun, then had a lovely icecream doing the same and had a quick look at Cape Foulwind.

In the evening we made tacos, which are very messy to eat but jummie. There was a guy making lots of food (huge scary looking cray fish) and he monopolised the kitchen. His lamb got burnt to a crisp and it smelt awful.
