January 03, 2005Still day 82: Cerro Calvario
The Cerro Calvario is called that because, on the way up, you get the fourteen stations of the cross. Or because it's just one hell of a climb. It's only a half an hour walk, but by the time I got to the top, I was wheezing like I'd smoked three packets of 'Groene Michel'. The sun was setting and the mountains turned purple, the clouds indigo and the sun a fiery orange. After, I went to Hotel La Cupula, where they have a nice restaurant, or so the LP tells us. It is very nice, with a great view. I had salmon trout, the local delicacy, with a tartare sauce to die for (I nearly licked the plate) and veggies. I did have some trouble getting the waiter's attention, as I was sitting in a blind corner. And I wanted desert: pancakes with icecream! I went back to the hotel and read the awful Babyville (Jane Green) until it was finished, so I don't have to take it with me to Isla del Sol. Comments
