Los Aventuras de Edmundo y Linda

Edmundo and Luis finnished some minor repairs on the car in the morning… removing the thermostat, tightening the shock and topping up the transmission fluid. We all (Edmundo, Linda, Luis & Kara) drove to a cute little beach town called Barra de Navidad. We stayed the night at a cheap bright turqoise hotel for $10/person. The hotel owner (Mario) was very friendly. We walked around town to the pier and ended up at a cool little pub with live reggae for some beers.

During the night, we were all woken up by people arguing in the hallway, construction, roosters, a dog barking and throwing up and Bob Marley blasting in the morning. We all walked to the beach to check out the surf, but the waves were too small so we decided to continue to our next location. Before we left the hotel Mario gave us all beers for the road. Interesting fellow.

The ferry reached Mazatlan at 08:00, but we waited 3 hours before it ported. Pinche Mexicanos… ha ha! Luis advised us to take the toll road all the way to Guadalajara, but after paying the first toll we were detoured off the toll highway onto the crappy highway because of construction. We got stuck behind a bunch of army trucks for a long time. The soldiers kept on whistling at Linda and she taught it was kinda gross. After about an hour we managed to get back to the main toll roads and drove on them all the way to Guada. We arrived at Luis´s at around 7:00pm. After we unpacked and talked with his family, we went out to a cool bar with Luis and some of his friends, Yoye and Fernanda. The bar had a similar feel as Black Dog in Edmonton. There was a crazy old guy there who apparently gets totally hammered and high all the time because he is rich and bored. He was dancing by himself while his chauffeur was waiting for him outside all night. Weird.

We went to the airport and picked up Kara, one of Luis´s American friends. She was really cool. She is a photographer and is currently living in Mexico City. We all went downtown and walked around the cool old town. Luis had us try tons of Mexican treats. Thats probably why Linda gained a little bit of weight during her stay here. That night we went out to the really cool pub called the Rusty Trombone. It had no signs, just a plain black metal door, which you had to knock on to get in. The bouncer would talk to you through a small hole in the door with a sliding cover before letting you in.

Luis and Edmundo worked on changing the clutch on our car, but were defeated that day. Linda and Kara lounged around Luis´s house all day. Later that night we went to a soccer game (Atlas vs. Pumas) with tons of Luis´friends (Yoye, Raul, Paulina, Yull and Diana). We all drove there together in the box of Yoye´s truck. The fans at the game were crazy. We could hear them as we were driving to the stadium. The stadium fits 75,000 people… WOW! After the game we all went for some really good tacos and then back to the Rusty Trombone for another night of fun.

Took a break from working on the car and went out for shaved ice, fruit, and amazing shrimp tacos for lunch. Joined in on the Semana Santa (Easter) festivities in a cool market next to a beautiful cathedral in the Zapopan area. Relaxed at Luis´s house. Linda´s feet are really dirty from always walking in sandals but she can´t get the dirt of. She just wanted make sure that was added into the blog. Called a mechanic to help Luis and Edmund with the car tomorrow.

Linda and Kara came to the shop to give Luis and Edmund moral support while working on the car. The mechanic didn´t show up because he was too hung over. We were victorious over the car today! We finished changing the clutch and did an oil change. Luis´s dad made fun of us for doing the job ourselves. He was right to laugh at us, we should have had a mechanic do it instead and saved ourselves the stress. A mechanic would have cost $200 to change the clutch including parts. So we saved $80… well, at least now I´m worthy of dating Paul´s daughter (that´s Linda just in case you didn´t know).

Saw a really bad accident on the highway to La Paz. Went to the ferry terminal just outside of La Paz to purchase our tickets, but found out that the ferry from La Paz to Mazatlan didn´t leave ... [Continue reading this entry]
