Safari means Journey

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

All the dreams about Africa were an obvious sign from my somewhere to include the dark continent in my trip.  August 1st i’m gonna buy my first one-way ticket and it looks like it is going to be Nairobi that gets the pleasure of being my first stop.  So far for the last few weeks that has held up to be the game plan so that is what i’m going with.  The month of January and half of February seems pretty set so far.   Fly to Nairobi, stay there for a few days, do a safari, meet Daisy in Tanzania, go to Malawi and come back, then head off the continent from Nairobi…

I have a folder for all my planning…

The trip is almost official.

Budgeting is harder than getting shots

Friday, July 7th, 2006

I just got back from the doctor. I am fully immune from both Hepatitus A & B. My doctor gave me the prescription for Doxycycline (Malaria pills) I called the Health Department and got the prices for Typhoid and Yellow Fever and it came out to much less than I expected so that is a good thing…

Ok, so i’m officially stressed over my budget for this trip. I think unnecessarily too. I guess I have a fear that i’m going to be stuck somewhere without a way home or that i’ll have to sleep on rocks when I run out of money or even worse, have to come home with no car and no money and have to start from scratch. I’m way over-budgeting though. I guess in the long run it is a good thing because in reality I won’t spend it all and I know that, but it gives me headaches. So what I think i’m going to do is try and cut my per day budget down to $40/day from $60/day. $60/day for SE Asia and East Africa is absurdly high since i’m sure there will be many days where i’ll get by on as low as $15-25. If I can relax a bit about money maybe I can enjoy these months leading up to the trip because with the situation with my car and saving money i’m going to go crazy.

The last thing I want is to come home completely broke and I have to keep reminding myself that it will be really difficult to have that happen even if I live in luxury for the entire time on my trip.

Can I pull it off?

I'm not really sure.  The last few nights I have had a few extra minutes before I fall asleep to ponder my upcoming trip.  So far I feel like I haven't gotten anything done other than some savings and this ... [Continue reading this entry]

If a tree falls

Monday, June 12th, 2006
If a tree falls on my car, do I still get to travel?  I have reason to panic.  Last time my car was in an accident it felt like everything that was going good for that time just crumbled like the left ... [Continue reading this entry]

Bangkok?

Monday, June 5th, 2006
I can't decide how I want to approach arrival to Asia.  The easiest choice is through Bangkok.  It is the cheapest option and it drops me off right in Thailand where I want to be and is the easiest to ... [Continue reading this entry]
