stuff it

WIth the amount of walking I’m going to be doing, it seems practical to have a small pack size. I’ve seen a lot of people lugging around the titanic on their backs, and it just doesn’t seem like I would be able to pull it off. Sure, walking through Hanoi on my way to wherever I’m sleeping I could probably manage. Lets face it though, I’m a weakling. Combine this lack of Chuck Norris with trekking for a month in Nepal and there is bound to be much misery. Therefore, I’ve decided I’m going to carry the smallest pack I can get away with. It seems as if many have gotten away with 40 liters, but it also appears most of them haven’t gone camping. Since I’ll be carrying potentially about a weeks worth of food at a time, and a tent, it may not be possible. I’m going to give it a go though. Last night I was able to fit all of the clothes I’d be taking with me quite easily into a little blue Eastpack backpack, that’s maybe 25L, so I’m fairly confident. Of course, it didn’t have a sleeping bag or any of the other things I’ll probably need to take besides clothes. Anyhow, here is my list as of today, we’ll see how this changes. The pack will have one less pair of most things in it at any given time, unless I feel like playing the nudist for the day, which seems unlikely.
Clothing

  • 2 short sleeve shirts (feel free to gasp)
  • 1 long sleeved shirt
  • 1 thermal shirt
  • 2 pairs pants
  • 1 pair of thermal pants
  • 4 pairs of socks
  • 4 pairs of boxers
  • Thick fleece
  • Thin fleece
  • Rain jacket
  • Rain pants (undecided)
  • Slippers
  • Boots

Miscellaneous

  • Passport/visas/tickets in money belt
  • Hairbrush/Toothbrush/Deoderant/Razor
  • 5+ Sleeping bag (celsius is better)
  • Silk sleep sheet (don’t let the bed bugs bite)
  • Small towel
  • Pack: I’m liking the deuter 42L right now, but I haven’t tried it on yet.

I completely understand people wanting to stay away from me for at least a month after I return. I will likely smell, a lot.
