You know it’s time to move on when

You walk down the calle & the beggars ignore you, you walk into El Portal & the smile on the waitress’s face is the big one reserved for a regular & you order in Spanish instead of pointing at what you want on the menu, the sellers in the park ignore you, when the price of cerveza at the No Sé café mysteriously drops because you know the bar tender from Spanish school & you really know it’s time when the park regulars from the American Legion branch invite you to join them at the weekly Thursday breakfast LOL. Oh & you can recognize a cruise ship tourist from across the park.

Speaking of cruise ship tourists I was talking to a couple from Maryland on the weekend & they dock at the port then bus them 90 minutes to Antigua where they tour the jade museum & maybe a coffee plantation, feed them & allow them a half hour or so in the park to take their picture in front of the fountain& let the souvenir sellers at them then herd them like sheep onto the bus back to the ship where they can do the same all over again in a different port the next day. Not for me!!!

Think half the west coast must be down here as met another guy from Vancouver along with another from Washington State. My assessment of the know it all Brit was confirmed by another of his countrymen who is well travelled & says there is a town in Thailand similar to Antigua but no where else in the world he has travelled.

At the breakfast this morning met a couple from Costa Rica who are thinking of moving because o the growing crime rate & also said that a law is in the works making the minimum income for new residents $2000/mo so a move there is out of the question.

Well bought the bus ticket for San Salvador on Tica bus for tomorrow morning where I will take a chicken bus to the beach, gave up on the idea of chicken bus all the way as it would have meant 5 bus changes & walking across the border, easier this way.

Went around with real estate lady yesterday to look at places in town & can get nice 2 bedroom furnished apt for around $650/mo internet & weekly maid service included or house a bit out of town for same price. Nice thing is that in the area no heat or air-con is needed. Going to take a lot for another location to match Antigua for me to relocate in but I am still going to check other locations with very skeptical views. Of course the local joke is that every one moving here is either wanted (by some one) or not wanted (by family).

So off at 11 tomorrow to continue my adventure.

What do they call shock absorbers on Antigua Tuk Tuks?

Dave … you won’t believe this but a man who used to be in our Spanish class (he is very much advanced) is there right now. His name is Clemente. Today at the gym, I met his friend Leo and (also a former Spanish student) and he said that Clemente is in Guatamala taking Spanish emmersion. When I mentioned Antigua, Leo said he thinks that is where he is. Clemente is the one I told you about that takes or used to take eye glasses to Belize. He is there with his brother; they are both very tall and thin. I thought I’d mention it cause you never know if you might meet up with him!

    Have fun in San Salvador!
