Valencia, Spain

12 Dec

As I walked through the Jardin in Valencia, I observed. The people here are very active. They bike, run, walk, play with their dogs. It’s a great city and I would love to lay some roots here. On the outskirts, probably. Near the park. Somewhere.

There’s a guy jogging, fast-paced, headphones in and sunglasses on, with a cute unleashed white terrier bounding a few steps behind. The dog keeps up pace with the runner, almost perfectly. I wondered if they knew each other before this momentary intersection of worlds/lives, or if the dog was bored and looking for a companion to chase. I wondered if they were just moving at the same speed and in the same direction. I wondered if the dude trained the dog to run behind him, and was merely ignoring it.

Then, something just *CLICKED.* Something I keep forgetting to remember.

Something about the chance meeting of any souls in the universe. Something about what draws, pulls, and maintains these connections. Or, more specifically, what breaks, diverts, and changes the directions of the chosen paths? What is the grand master scheme?

Wish I could remember.

Mallorca

I spent three weeks in Mallorca; it was relaxing, invigorating, and totally beautiful! The farm was exactly what the pictures were… and the family who ran it and workers were kind and offered some insightful conversations. (more…)

After Mallorca Kyle and I parted ways and I went back to Valencia, Spain to hang out with Adam for the weekend. As you can imagine, we had a fantastic time just wandering about the city and running into so many cool people.

Barcelona

Barcelona. The weather, the pace, the beach, the whole scene makes me think of southern california. We walked down to the beach from our hostel off Las Ramblas. Tons of people were surfing, windsurfing, hanging on the beach with a 40, a dog, or a guitar. THIS IS MY KIND OF PLACE. The drowned rats I could do without, but you take the bad with the good, right? Communicating in Spain is much easier than in France – I actually understand what is going on. I’m still pretty intimidated to speak spanish to the spanish speakers, especially when I have to start the conversation.
