Another week, another island
So, I’m taking the “express” boat again, this time it’s headed to the port of Thong Sala on Koh Phangan.
Now here, I really was lazy.
I was recommended a place called Star Hut at Ao Thong Nai Pan Noi (I think that may even be spelled correctly!), which is on the north east coast of the island.
There’s a very long, stomach-churningly-bumpy drainage ditch of a track to get there, not helped by the torrential downpour that starts immediately as the ferry docks and we all disembark.
Anyway, it’s beautiful once you get there. A long sandy beach, loads of people doing just nothing. Which is precisely what I did for three days.
Apparently there are some nice hills, waterfalls, many other beautiful beaches, lively bars and even the Half Moon Party on the 29th to go to.
I say apparently as we didn’t make it to any of them; in fact never leaving the beach: managing to get only as far as a whole 5 minutes along the sand to the Flip Flop bar each evening.
Quite lame really (in fact we did intend to go to the Party, but it kind of got to 3am and we had missed the last cheap sawngthaew bus-taxi thing).
So, exhausted by the hard three days, we departed on the stomach churning road, and (appropriately it was once again raining) left on the ferry back to the mainland.
I got the overnight bus back up to Bangkok for one final time…. because (forward to next post) …. –>
