We Be Scrumping
From Waitomo, we actually headed back to Taupo because we loved the thermal stream so much… and there is a free campsite. When we got back to our trusty campspot, we ran into some people that we had met in Rotorua. 2 of them were headed in the same direction as us, so we decided to caravan with each other over to Napier. Napier is on the east coast and is known for it’s wineries (Hawkes bay). We had a wonderful time going to wineries tasting the local brew. Shelly and greg were actually going to Napier to work in the apple orchards picking apples, because of this we got to camp with them at the back of the apple orchard… needless to say the morning started of with a major PRODUCE PATROL. We are not sure why we get so much plessure from scrumping fruit (thats the british term for fruit stealing.. we like the sound of it). We think it tastes better when we steal it!!
We continued tasting our way south through Martinborough then all the way down to the tip of the North island, pallisner bay. We went searching for colonies of fur seals, but never actually found any… very disappointing! The vineyards in Martinborough were beautiful and very unpretentious. We actually learned a lot about NZ wines, and got a nice buzz.
We then headed for Wellington, where we caught the ferry over to the south island… thats where we are now (still tasting wine at the Marlborough sound), headed to Able Tasmin National park to do some real hiking. This area is famous for its green lip mussels, its like forrest gump over here. steamed mussels, fried mussels, mussel soup, mussel fritter, mussels, mussels, mussels.

I bet scrumping just isn’t the same when you don’t get to drive around the blocks 4 or 5 times and then jump out of you moving car, sneak up to the fruit, grab it, then run like hell back to you car and speed off! Oh good times, good times. I can taste the mangos Lisa.
Wow, you guys are still trucking. Keep those pics coming. Love Nancy
I’m glad that Todd is no longer searching the countryside for mushrooms. Stick with the fruit, Todd.
Ah, echoes of mango theft. Yes, BDaddy, those were what we call the salad days of our misspent youth. Or you could call it last spring. Either way…
Miss you cowpokes
Aloha you guys! Just wanted to say hey and how excited we are for you and all the crazy adventures you’ve had (and for staying safe!!!). Are you coming back to Maui? Rumors of Hana side have been floating around… Last week we were reminiscing with Em, Maura and Beth of engagement party shenannigans, including Lisa’s ‘pointy finger’ dance manuevers…
We miss ya and can’t wait to reconnect sometime in the future…Sending lots of love and continued fun wishes your way!
Forget about coming home; stay on vacation as long as possible. The real world is not as exciting! The pictures and commentary allow me to feel as if I am with you. Keep on keeping on; stay safe. I will see you soon. Love you and miss you! Joel
Yummers!!! I love green mussels! The pictures are gorgeous!
The Incredible Hulk has HUGE green muscles. Don’t make him angry though, you wouldn’t like him if he was angry.
Just a thought.
