Orientation
We went into First Contact today for our orientation and to set up our bank accounts. It wasn’t a long process and we were fairly prepared so we skipped out of there when done.
At night we had to get our bags over to Mile End, after sitting in the hostel room and sorting out the crap we wanted to take to Jersey and everything to leave behind. Dwayne helped us carry our 25kg suitcases up the three flights of narrow stairs and leave them in his and Joel’s room, where Lija and I will be for the first month.
I haven’t really said anything about the place. It’s four storeys, the bottom is just a staircase because the place is under a neon sign shop, the second floor is the kitchen (complete with washing machine which most people in the UK keep in their kitchen because there’s no laundry) living room and a bedroom, the third floor is two bedrooms and the fourth floor is a big bathroom and bedroom. Our room has two double beds in it which we’ll share for the month, then move in to two single rooms when everyone else goes overseas. The house currently has three guys and two girls, all from Perth, but they are planning to travel Europe on their holidays. Most of them are temping in London as teachers.
So these two suitcases I’m thinking are like Pandora’s Boxes to the boys, I’m sure they’re sitting there looking at them, eager to see what’s inside. Luckily for us they’re locked. We’ve been tempted to check Ebay to make sure they haven’t sold off any of our crap hehe just kidding!
We met up with Sarah tonight too. We met Sarah when we were travelling around New Zealand last year, and have kept in contact, well Lija has somewhat better, I’m a bit hopeless with the individual email thing – I’m loving keeping a blog however! So the three of us went to an outside Italian restaurant in Covent Gardens for dinner – it was really nice and quaint, and they made a great pizza!
We’re going out with Sarah when we get back for her birthday on Derby Day, which I’m really looking forward to and if it’s nice weather I’m so wearing my red dress!
