Hervey Bay – Christmas Day!
So we made it somewhere for Christmas – it it wasn’t a crappy campsite either thank God. We stayed at Koala’s Beach Resort in the Queensland seaside location of Hervey Bay. Hervey Bay reminds me a little of Morecambe or somewhere similar: there’s a main promenade lining a stretch of sand that harbours rocky spots and a pier at one end. Admittedly, I saw the beach when the tide was fully out, and so there was only a small area of soft golden sand to walk on, but it still pisses all over Morecambe any day.
Once again, the heat persisted in burning every tiny space in between the millimeters of hair left on my head, but we had a pool at the resort to cool off in when necessary. A group of crazy Irish lads were conducting some Aquaerobics later on in the afternoon as they sipped at Sangria, provided for as part of Koala’s pay-for Christmas Dinner spread. We chose to hit the beers whilst Nicky cooked up a proper Chistmas Day dinner of turkey, spuds, veg and all the trimmings. The woman who organised the Christmas dinner wouldn’t let us pay for just the Sangria, so when we got pissed enough we just took some anyway. We’re ace.
Everybody had a great time, especially me – I got drunk enough to belt out ‘We Will Rock You’ at the top of my voice whilst standing on a table, before necking a shot and falling backwards off my seat. I lost my hat, then ended up sleeping in the wrong room because I couldn’t find my own, much to the bemusement of the Brazilian couple who watched me literally fall into their room at 3am. Congratulations to me on a postcard please. The bad thing was that we had to be up at 6:45am on Boxing Day to head out to Fraser Island… my head still hurts… more on that adventure soon…
