The U.S.A. – Part 1 – Los Angeles

L.A. start 1 L.A. start 2

Staying at the Venice Beach ‘Cotel’ right next to the madness of the nearby seaside promenade, the phrase ‘only in America’ immediately sprang to mind upon arriving at this gigantic metropolis of a city. Made up of several mini-cities, L.A. resembles something like a huge microchip from the air with its block-on-block rigidity and punctuating industrialism. Venice Beach is like Morecombe Bay on Ecstacy – street performers, artists, cyclists, skaters, beach-bums and genuinely insane people in equal measure. My time in L.A. was short: with an excursion to Las Vegas planned for a few days later, I didn’t really get a chance to go and do the whole Hollywood Boulevard/stars-on-the-pavement thing… so I constructively spent my time re-living some of my greatest childhood moments at Universal Studios:

Universal 1 Universal 2

Universal 3 Universal 4

Universal 5 Universal 6

Universal 7 Universal 8

I’m not really arsed about being able to say “ooh look, my hands are bigger than Arnold Schwarzenegger’s!” (which incidently, they are!) just because he shoved them in some wet concrete on a pavement…but take me round the set where they filmed some of the scenes from Back to the Future and I’m pretty satisfied. Funny eh?
