The Crazy Couple!

Maryanne and I (Jared) are off to find adventure after working several years overseas. We are both in the IT field and have worked in some great places such as Guam, Diego Garcia, Kuwait and Qatar. There is no telling what we will find on this trip (about ourselves and what we want to do when we grow up), so we are just keeping an open mind and taking one day at a time. The only real planning we have done is our first stop to Thailand for our Dive Master Course. After that who knows, it will depend on whatever we feel like doing next. Our thinking is that we will pretty much travel around Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Micronesia. Hope you enjoy our blog and we will keep it updated to let you all know where we are and that I haven't hopefully been attacked by a shark!

Last days in Singapore

November 8th, 2008

Oh lovely Singapore you will be missed!  The past few days have been great despite the rain.  We headed over to the East Coast Park and man what a great place, if you ever find yourself here it is well worth the trip.  Perfect paths for skating, jogging and cycling plus a separte path just for a walk.  Loads of trees, little ponds, picnic tables, BBQ pits and you can even camp there.  Plus there are little restaurants and shops to stop in for a nice cold drink.  The highlight for me was Read the rest of this entry »

The last few days in Singapore

November 2nd, 2008

Wow times flies!  I am sure you would think we have been extremely busy in Singapore.  The truth is we have slowed down exploring and have spent lots of time relaxing.  It has actually been a lot of fun.  We do get out for a bit, but not all day explorations.  We have been to the Museum and enjoyed the Korean Festival here.  Although it has been great to catch up on our favorite TV shows, figured we would enjoy the fast internet, big room and great food.  Yesterday we went to the Korean Festival and had a great Indian meal.  Probably need to leave here soon otherwise are waist size will start going the other direction!  Maybe if we can get motivated we will make it to the coast, but not sure if that will happen thankfully there is tomorrow.  Only 2 more days till the new Bond movie!!  Got to try to get all of this entertainment in before heading back into the land of hostels, bugs in the bathroom, and cheap food!

Where few tourists have gone before

October 30th, 2008

Before we headed off on this trip, we had looked at other peoples blogs about thier travels.  To try to see what others experienced, found, discovered and enjoyed.  One theme kept reoccuring which was to explore things, places which few had discovered before. To experience them in their unchanged, unspoiled state.  The thing I am starting to see is that for every person that gets inspired or sees the light, there are countless others who make mountains out of mole hills, pretends to see, experience things which they want to be more than what they are.  Which reminds me of these three young girls Read the rest of this entry »

Singapore Photos

October 28th, 2008

Some of the fun we have been having here in Singapore.  It has been so much fun we have decided to stay for awhile longer.  Plus we found a wonderful place to stay, with big rooms, right downtown, free wifi and inexpensivc!  Plus the place has a washer you can use, TV in the room, and AC.   It is more like a homestay then a hotel so we are quite happy.  We also went to the movies the other day and found one that has salty popcorn and butter!!!  Yes I am in heaven here.  So with the new James Bond movie coming on Nov 5, I thought it was a good enough reason to stay longer!  Okay that wasn’t the only reason, Read the rest of this entry »

Touring Singapore

October 26th, 2008

We have been exploring all over Singapore, with a great network of public transport, it has been really easy to get around.  Not to mention a whole lot of walking, so much so I think it really has added to our weight loss.  I am down to 71kg, Yippee!!  We ventured to a small island to the south of Singapore called Sentosa, pretty much for families, but we did enjoy it.  The highlight was definetely the lazer light and water show, granted it was very cheesy acting, but the show itself was awesome. We pretty much spent all day there, might have been a little too long, but since the light and water show was at 730 we stuck around. Another day of walking around! The dolphin show, 4D show and Merlion were also pretty nice. However I would suggest passing on this place unless that is if you have kids. I will say there are tons and tons of places to shop in Singapore! This we learned from touring around on the hop on-hop off bus, apparently it is one of Singaporeans favorite pasttimes, that and eating. Plenty of 24 hour shopping and eating places. So we have been staying up pretty late. Last night it was to go to the Night Safari, now with Halloween coming up, it was all decorated. Personally I was there to see animals at night, not to listen to young kids screaming as staff dressed up jump out of the woods!! Luckily it was only for about 10 minutes at the start of the entrance! It was very nice the rest of the time, plus since we stayed so late we finally stopped walking and took a tram around, which we had all to ourselves for most of the way. Thank God children get tired and want mommy and daddy to take them home! We ended up leaving the zoo at midnight! Needless to say we decided to sleep in today, which was much needed after all the walking and late nights. Today we went down to the riverwalk and had a look around. We ended up spending a few hours at a pub watching rugby (France-winner vs Scotland and Australia-winner vs New Zealand) well worth it since they had great beer!

White Chocolate Mochas in Singapore!!!

October 23rd, 2008

Yes you heard right, my prayers have been answered, I love this asian country!!!!  Before I get into how great Singapore is let me go back to our last few days in Bali.  Yes we did the monkey park, laid on the beach, had pizza hut, watched movies and surfed online, however we were ready to leave for sure.  Mostly I think due to the male shopkeepers (the ladies were nice), they went a little overboard trying to get you Read the rest of this entry »

Bali and the Monkeys

October 20th, 2008

Hello all, It have been a while since Jared let me write on the blog. So what is the first thing I am going to do, I am going to tell you a little story about Jared.  Jared and I went to the monkey forest outside of Ubud in Bali.  There is a ton of signs on the way in that tell you not to get to close to the monkeys as they are quite cheeky. So the first thing that happens when we get in maybe 50 feet into the park is a monkey starts biting the end of my pant legs and climbs up my back and on my arm trying to get to the banana’s that Jared has in his hands why he climbs on me I have no idea, he was a cute little monkey. Well Jared hated the idea of getting so close to the monkey and he is throwing the bananas so the monkeys don’t get to close.  Well later on Jared gets some courage and decides to give one of the monkeys a banana well he chose the wrong monkey to get close to because this monkey shows Jared his teeth and starts coming for him. Jared throws the whole bundle of bananas that he have in his hand and says “Here have them all”, as he is running away with the most terrifying look on his face. I can’t do anything but laugh and I am not the only one, some of the other guest are looking at Jared and laughing as well.   Now being that this only happened a couple of days ago, I am shocked that the Jared says to me when we get on the internet is that two of our friends are in Phuket working at a monkey reserve and he would like to go. I am now thinking what are you going to do when we are there, run away from all the monkeys.

So we have learned that we do not like the cities very much. As we are sitting in Kuta beach for a week we have gotten really bored.   The only thing there is to do here is go to the beach and shop.  Being that we dont have money to shop that leaves just the beach.  I am not saying that the beach is not nice but it does get boring if you are not surfing which we are not.

Below are some pictures of the monkeys and the Zoo. Jenna you cant go to the Zoo here as they have birds out and about everywhere. The last pictures are of the water Palace if you go to Bali I would say that this is not something to miss. It only cost 5000RM to get in and it well worth it.

Last Days in Lembah and Bali ending the 100 Dive Adventure

October 16th, 2008

We had a wonderful time in Lembah, which was made even more special by seeing our friends from  Koh Tao.  It was even better as we pretty much had the resort to ourselves!  Although it was a short visit it was nice to reconnect, especially since we were diving with our Open Water Instructor Jesper.  He had a tear in his eye seeing how far we had come in our diving careers!  🙂  After a tearful goodbye we headed to… Read the rest of this entry »
