Sight Seeing Washington DC

3/1/06

So today we all headed out to walk around the State Capital and take in the sights and sounds of a city I have always heard mixed reviews about. I was pretty impressed with the size of everything and the first thing we came across that I new instantly was the Washington Monument of Independence. From here we walked down to the Lincoln Memorial via the reflection lake seen in films like Forest Gump and Born on the 4th of July. Really Disappointed with this as there is repair work under way and there is a great big piece of scaffolding around it.

From here we walked round various other monuments before heading to the American history museum for a couple of hours. I appreciate that North America has not got the same depth of history as say England but nearly every part of the museum was about one war or the other.

So after a day of sightseeing and to be fair we did not push ourselves too much we went out for a meal before heading back to the hotel to play cards/drinking games. The night started well in a small bar where we talked with locals, the girls had a little sing before we headed out to other bars. This is where it got bad….. the next bar we got to would not let Cathy in as they thought she was too drunk, the next bar would not let Loz in because she is 20 and too young. Nick and I could only do the right thing by them so we went on on our own and had a great night meeting up with the girls in the hotel later.
