August 31, 2004SE ASIA May/June 2005
(This post is soooo obsolete since I cancelled my plans for SE Asia for the time being!) So, i've made the decision. I am going to purchase my ticket in the next few weeks to Bangkok. The flight i'm looking at leaves Tampa and connects in Atlanta, GA and Seoul, South Korea and then on to the final destination of Bangkok, Thailand. Right now, the only thing I have pretty much set in stone is the arrival to Bangkok and 2-3 nights in Suk11 as I have been told this is an excellent hostel to start out in. There are many choices once I arrive. I can take the overland trip from Bangkok to Siem Reap via Poipet, Cambodia. Thanks to www.talesofasia.com it is something I might be able to pull off. Also, there is the trek into Northern Thailand via Chiang Mai and after looking at Neil's "Good Morning Vietnam" blog I might even be able to try Laos. The Mekong River looks amazing and definitely an "off the beaten path" idea that I would embrace. The other route I could take is south into the lower part of Thailand where I would be island hopping. It seems like that choice would be a little more expensive than my others but if I plan it right I can atleast include SOME beach during my 6 weeks. That is another thing... I'm not sure if it will be 6 weeks or not... or if I will need to go with just 4 weeks. I guess that all depends on the money I can save. Comments
