MIA
I know SERIOUS blog slacking…I had a rainy Saturday and it was the best.
Natasha (South Africa) and I watched movies like all day when I came back from visiting my pseudo family that morning. (Yes I’ve made friends with a Korea family.) We watched a South African film but I totally loved the British movie, “Death at a Funeral” which came out last year! Hilarious dark humor!! Go for it – check it out! (It has the one kid from Love Actually and Peter the Pirate from Dodgeball in it.)
Later we met up for dinner and desert and whatnot with Dyanne (from Texas whom I had befriended on the subway- you know me).
We had Mexican food and of course the picture I pointed to was not what I got, though good nonetheless. The cheese on top of this pasta however totally killed my stomach with the grease and I laid claim to the bathroom. Ooofff. I grabbed a fist full of napkins because the last public toilet I was in didn’t have any! BYOTP!
Then it was back to Natasha’s for a couple more movies including an American movie called “Meet Bill”.
On Sunday after finally unpacking my suitcases of clothes and actually putting them in my closets (bought something to line the drawers because I was a bit shady about the cleanliness) I met up with Natasha again and we went to Samsung Plaza a few subway stops away.- same place we were the night before.
It’s this big mall with stores outside of it as well Our mission – get to the bookstore with the English section. We took a little while to find it. Along the way I saw some girl wearing a sweatshirt that said, “New Jersey Garden State”. I actually stopped the girl and her friend and tried to explain that I was from NJ. I proceeded to make the girl have her picture taken. She seemed quite confused and kind of like ok psycho… can you get away from me now- but like I care.
Natasha and I made a “major investment” that day. We both bought a work book with cd called “korean made easy for beginners.”
Yes we are determined to learn this frickin language since it’s so easy to get by without knowing much. As you know at school we are forced to make the kids only speak English and I usually only see the Korean teachers at work. Their main focus isn’t on teaching Aimee believe it or not… they actually dedicate themselves to the kids. The nerve! haha.
Now I’m not going to get into how Koreans wear English writing on their shirts without a clue what it means. I thought I was creative in taking pictures of bad grammar or phrases that make no sense (for a future blog) but it turns out that there is a t-shirt store in Seoul for foreigners along the lines of “Do you know what your English T-shirt says?” I can’t wait to go! It’s so true!
I left school early today with a fever 38.8 degrees Celcius…
But I was a champion and stayed for all my classes. Luckily I didn’t have any afternoon classes but it totally sucks because I missed out on a few hours of Halloween prep time! Bad timing. Grrr. I want my classroom to look good… so I really NEED to feel better by tomorrow!!
Halloween is a big to-do on Friday with the parents coming for a BBQ and to see the school and watch the kids sing. I believe I’m going to be one of the ghosts in the haunted house. Watch out Bristol – I’m gonna scare the crap out of you! MWAH HA HA HA.
Today I think the kids actually behaved better because Aimee teacher was sick. I couldn’t even talk that well and layed down in the playroom during my free period.
As for blog slacking I have taken so many pictures. This weekend especially. And on our on field trip to the transportation museum. I will get on that. Sucks that this site wont load them from my home computer. I will catch up on it if not this week then this weekend for sure! Halloween is on Friday and I’m a bit nervous for how crappy my classroom is gonna be. At least I started putting black paper on the windows.
It really was a frickin effort to get through the day. Oh my gosh! I’m trying not to take any sick time unless I’m like dying. It’s just a cold but with a fever it kinda sucked.
I don’t think it was too bad but I got home around 3 pm and went to the pharmacy with a note form school with my symptoms and handed it to them and they just gave me some medicine. Actually today I def. was the most sick.
When I woke up at 5 pm I think that my fever must have gone up because the back of my tshirt was wet as was my hair. It’s 9:30 pm and I’m a bit better now! Natasha called to see if I was ok and to invite me to dinner tomorrow if I’m up to it. Normally I’d be chatting it up because she is awesome and finally I’ve found a friend who reminds me of you good people at home. Plus she thinks Seinfeld is hilarious. However it took me a lot of effort just for that call. But I digress.
I brought home work to do today and yesterday (aka Halloween decorations) but haven’t done anything. Yesterday I also left right after my last afternoon class – well tried to but I must have missed the bus by a minute and so went home on the next one, when the foreigners leave. I’ve been staying till as close to 6 pm as I can lately so I can get things done. I was supposed to go to the pharmacy yesterday but went I got home to get money I decided a 5 min. nap would be ok. Yeah right Aimee. I woke up at 1:25 am. Stayed awake for about 40 minutes and then slept till 7 am. Lovely.
Apparently all the teachers were concerned about me at work today and wanted me to go to the hospital. Oh ha ha ha – no! It’s just a cold! Andrea says that it happens when you work at a school with all the kids and that I’m especially not used to all the “new” germs out here in Asia. I hope my immune system will pick up. Part of my lesson yesterday and today dealt with COVERING YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU COUGH. This was a win-lose situation. Some kids covered their mouths while other kids just tried coughing with wide open mouths for no other reason than the fact that I mentioned it.
Thank you Hondo for telling me I was a slacker and making me write back to your email which I was able to use for this blog!
Hope all is well with all of you and MOM – DO NOT WORRY!
Peace in the middle east.
Aimee
PS really didn’t proof read this. Ah well.
