In the last 4 days we have learnt how to scuba dive....i am absolutely knackered now, its not that easy....especially the maths of working out diving times and how deep you can go for how long after a rest of 30 minutes and on and on, anyway the best bit is floating weightless under 15 meters of water surrounded by tropical fish with the reef wall dropping away under you for ever and the deep blue you just look into....its pretty scary too, especially when 4 days before it was hard enough to put my head under and beleive i could still breathe and to get to controlling going up by taking deeper breaths or breathing out more to go down....i am left with water in my ear that i cant shake out but we are going to go and do some more dives next week without having to do classes and stuff like taking the mask off while sitting on the bottom or taking off all the gear and replacing it again on the bottom, at least i hope not...just cruise around looking for big fish...dont have to look too hard here though, we followed a school of big fish going along the reef, saw a big lobster sitting under a rock, listened to all the fish eating which is really loud near the coral, when we were in the classroom back on land the owner came in and said some orcas were swimming past so we ran out and some others took off in a speedboat to catch up but we missed them and we had to complete our class so the rare event was missed...killer whales! we didnt see anything like that on our dives so far but we are not holding our breath...which does help, the fear of exploding lungs and eardrums stays with me at the bottom but the view is amazing....we are going to take a camera on our next trip down there so hopefully we might have some closeups of sharks and whales and crabs and stuff soon....i decided to read Jaws as part of my training, this has given me a few worrying moments but so far i've managed not to imagine too many sharp teeth...it's all good for dreaming though, the floating feeling seems to stay for a while, so far we have clocked well over two hours 'bottom time'.....
