Stories from Puerto. . .

Lizards
There are so many lizards around here, it’s amazing! They’re on the roof, on the trees and running around the grounds of where we’re staying. We never get to see the ones on the roof, only their tail, or their foot pushing their belly through or sometimes their chin popping into the room. When they move around there you really hear it though, especially at night, it sounds like someone’s trying to break in when they shuffle around. The lizard we found in a tree was ace, well up for the photoshoot too.
The best though is down by the pool, and those fellas are fast so I’ve got no photographic proof. They’re normally around in the morning, but not too fond of us so we don’t get to see them much for the rest of the day.

Nightclub shame
So we were on the dance floor, Usher was playing, and as Tracey knows that requires some fancy footwork. There I am in the middle of an intrinsic maneuver when my feet clash against each other. Propelled by my energetic steps I hit a full-on leftward knee slide. The knee slide comes to an abrupt end when I hit the dj booth, right arm in the air holding my corona. A few people that saw are looking at me a bit worried so I pop back up onto my feet and carry on, playing down the knee pain.
Next thing, the lights come on. The dj is frantically moping his mixer, the club owner sees and legs it over from the bar with towels. Turns out my beer bottle is missing a third of its contents and it managed to leap over the perspex cover onto the equipment. All’s well that ends well, no great damage was done, and as I hid my beer behind a pillar the music carried on.

The Market
Getting to the market is ace! There are these crazy collectivo vans that drive up and down the road and you stick your arm out and jump in the back.
The craziest thing is that loads of people get on with kids and they let them sit up on a ledge so they are sitting over where the driver sits looking out at the road in front. Now that’s a good view for sure but if you were to take the tarp away covering the front you’d see that position for what it is: a two year old that can barely sit upright sitting on top of a car going at 30/40mph. Nuts!
It costs about 15p to get up to the market, a bargain; it’s uphill and quite a walk in the heat. The market is a big warehouse of a building with market stalls selling pretty much everything. While I’m writing this I’m eating some tasty pineapple bought from there. Every time we go we seemed to get ripped off just a little bit by one stall or another, we’ve been quite a few times and have had such a range of prices for the exact same thing. But I guess that’s just what we have to deal with for our gringo faces and I try not to let it bother me too much. Yesterday when I got shortchanged I called it because it was a decent amount of money she’d missed in my change; last time at the same place I’d let the shortchange slide because it was only one or two pesos and I didn’t feel like making a deal out of it. But the stuff we have got is great – coriander at 10p a bunch, and they even have fresh beetroot for jono! Going to the market rules.

The Hammock
Yesterday we put an order in that I’m pretty excited about. Our first hammock! There’s a guy called Antonio that sells his hammocks on the beach and around. Our neighbours had bought a couple already and helped us big time in getting our own order in. Thanks Pamela and Fernando.! We’re getting it especially made: triple sized and all red. Prepare for many pictures of it . . .
. . . . .
To start the new year off right we received our hammock on New Years Day in the alvo. And it´s more beautiful than I even imagined, yeah, that good. Last night around sunset, me and jono even managed to both get in there and it was so comfy I fell asleep. Wow I love our new hammock....
