on the 4th of July...I'm Canadian

Not that I'm scared to be American, i just think that with all the beheadings going on in the middle east, this might be the way to go...eh?

So, our friend Nageeb had a 4th of july party for American's at the American University of Cairo...very simple, BBQ, games for the kids, live band playing Steeley Dan, Aretha Franklin, James Brown and the late Ray Charles. Very cool atmosphere i mus admit, but at first, i didn't want to go...

I would've rather have stayed home and not exposed myself as a full blood american...just as a greek...but all went well.

One thing intersting that did happen in Alexandria, was that i did meet some Greeks from Cyprus, in the hotel for a convention of some sorts..(pottery?...just kidding), and i did meet some greeks and a couple of priests at the Citadel of Alexandria from Thessaloniki...just there for vacation...that was very cool...except the Greeks of Cyrpus appeared to be too cool for me to talk to...oh well, maybe I'll up my coolness with some new thicker glasses, and not approach them by the question: "Opa?" as an introduction...anyways...

The fouth of July went by okay, got to call my mom and dad, although my dad was busy watching the EURO 2004 Championship soccer game...funny thing is, when i called him, he was like, "hey Mike, what are you doing? You know, I'm watching the game right...Greece vs Portugal. Maybe we can talk later." I said, "Dad, I'm in Egypt right now...calling you long distance, just to say hi." He responds, "Oh, oh yeah...how are you doing 're?" Typical...very typically, but you gotta love him.

This week's plans are to go visit Coptic Cairo, the City of the Dead, the Citadel in Cairo, the Egypt Musuem, and go inside the Pyramids of Giza.

I hope everyone is enjoying this blog, and that once i get back home, I'll put up some pictures...then, it'll be finished...but for now, I'm exhausted from getting back from Alexandria, going to the 4th of July party worried about my life, and watching Greece beat Portugal 1-0....

i'll write soon...

oh, RON---the color of the Fiat is three-toned with beige, white and rust..still pedalling along in fourth gear, revving the RPMs high...

Vince, thanks for checking out the site...come to Chicago when i get back...
Marvin...hit me when i'm back..I'll hit ya...

and to my cousins, brother and sisters...Roxy, Aunts and Uncles, mom and dad...I miss ya...see ya in the afterlife...I mean, when i get back...OPA!!!!! ha!
