Thank you so much!

April 5th, 2008

Well I really have some generous friends and family. I am not 100% comfortable asking for money from people even when it is for a really good cause but I was so happy with everyone’s generosity is sponsoring my MS 150 ride. In return I have good news, too. My 40 year old bicycle is in excellent working order thanks to Dave and Paul’s Cyclery in Littleton. We rode to Morrison and back today (30 miles round trip) and I feel great. So, my old body and my old bike I think are both in good shape to be ready by the time we need to go 150 miles in two days. I plan on continuing to do a long ride (gradually getting longer) most weekends until then and with some new break pads and tune-up the bike should be ready to go too. Not that it matters if I were to drop out, your money still goes to an excellent cause but who wants to back a looser? 🙂

Bonus photos

April 1st, 2008

Just a couple of cool pictures I wanted to post.

frozenfalls.jpg

This is a cool frozen waterfall in Idaho Springs. I really like Idaho Springs, we’ve been in the area for snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and snowmobiling this year. The town its self is a cool old mining town with a great pizza place and an awesome microbrewery. There is even a hot spring there. If we didn’t have to be in the city for work everyday we’d move there no problem!

Another photo that illustrates the rediculas size of our dog.

You gotta love spring in Colorado

April 1st, 2008

This is what I love about living near the mountains, especially in the spring and summer. Saturday it was 65 degrees and sunny, so we took our boat out on the lake for the first time. But don’t think that means winter sports are over. Next Saturday we are skiing again, the season is still great for winter sports in the mountains.

Yes, for those of you who didn’t know we purchased a pontoon boat over the winter. We live about 2 miles from Chatfield State Park, which has a nice lake so we plan on spending most of the summer at the lake. This is to make up for how much I miss my swimming pool! 🙂

MS 150

March 28th, 2008

So my company is putting together a team for the MS 150 this year and I have signed up! Wow, now I have to get my bike fixed and get in shape. Yes, I am going to do it on my 40 year old Peugeot, but I will give in and buy a new saddle. It is June 28-29th here in Colorado and it should be a beautiful ride. Wish me luck and if you want to donate to the cause you can check out my fundraising page:

The last big weekend for winter sports

March 22nd, 2008

So we decided to enjoy our Easter weekend (3 days!!!) with a big blowout of winter sports. Spring is rapidly arriving in the Denver area and we might be tempted with warmer temperatures to stay at lower altitudes and enjoy biking and boating rather than heading to the mountains. So Friday we headed up for snowshoeing with the dogs, Saturday we rented snowmobiles (neither of us had ever ridden one before) and Sunday we’ll have a final go at the ski slopes at Echo Mountain Park.  Here are photos from the first two days.

That is the guy we rented the snowmobiles from coming down the mountain. It doesn’t look that steep in the photo, but it was STEEP. Needless to say, Dave and I did not go up that high.

We were riding back near Jones Pass, very beautiful area.

Giant actual dog

February 28th, 2008

I had to post this photo. I had the flu last week and I guess Woody was worried about me, he wanted to sit on my lap the day I stayed home from work. Dave took this picture of him on the couch with me and it cracks me up. He is really big.

Giant Hot Dog!

February 17th, 2008

When you head out of Denver on Hwy 285 you pass through the small town of Bailey that is home to this hot dog stand shaped like a hot dog. It is a great place to stop for a quick bite on your way from or to various mountain locations. This place combines my love for dodgy tourist attractions and A&W-style coney dogs. Hey, you are on your way to climb a 14er, have a snowshoe adventure, or some other serious activity so you deserve it!

We were cross country skiing on Saturday, here are some photos.

Molly still enjoys getting out there, but she sure is sore the next day.

Global Scavenger Hunt

February 13th, 2008

So I was reading the travel section of the Denver Post the other day and something caught my eye. Something called ‘Gobal Scavenger Hunt 2008’. So I went to their website to check it out (www.globalscavengerhunt.com). This sounds like the most amazing opportunity…to spend 3 weeks traveling around the world for charity! This is totally for us, we could end up with the title ‘greatest travelers ever’. How cool would that be, but even if you don’t win you get to visit all these amazing places; knowing your journey is going to help worthy causes like UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, the Red Cross, and Heifer International.
But, alas, I did not find out in time to do it this year, as it will require at least 3 weeks off work and at least 3 months of fund-raising. I recently checked the website and it looks like the 2008 event is full already, but you can apply for 2009, which I am all over. They don’t accept everyone so there is no guarantee but we have got to try this.
