Halloween Hootenanny

November 2nd, 2005

halloween

Went out for good old time Saturday night at Sean’s place, saw some old friend’s, had a couple drinks, and had a good old time. I was a zombie nurse if you’re trying to figure out what my costume was. Over did it a little with the Hot 100 but it was all good. Thanks Sean for having us over, Jesse for the advice, Mike for being Mike and Erin for taking care of Mike and I, without you I doubt we would have made it home.

Well, two days to go and I will be on a plane to the other side of the world where life as I know it will cease to exist. The past couple day’s I’ve been busily packing things together and tying up my last few odds and ends, the list is getting shorter and shorter but I always seem to be adding a few things to it along the way. I’m glad that I started getting the little things together like two week ago.

This is it

October 29th, 2005

Well yesterday was my last day of work and now the countdown truly begins. In 6 more day’s 2 plus years of plotting and planning will come into fruition. I’ve had October 28th in my mind as my last day of work for over a year now and I must say it’s just a little too anti-climatic for my liking. Back in the cold bleak winter months of February and March, October seemed like a decade away and I had imagined my last day of work to be a thing of beauty. I figured at 4:30 on the dot I would do a back flip off my desk, while fireworks shot out of my ass, run out of the building, stopping at Lionel’s office to give him a flying head-bunt and do a last run through of the shop to the theme music of Rocky while everyone cheered me on. Oddly enough that didn’t happen but alas…

I’d just like to thank Dennis and Allen for being damn cool bosses and giving me the opportunity to fulfill my dreams and goals…even though they didn’t know about them.

Intro

September 28th, 2005

I am a 24-year-old male with absolutely no travel experience. I have been working my ass off the last year and a half as a draftsman, living the North American cubical dream. Living in my mom’s basement, staring into a computer 50+ hours a week and scrimping and saving has afforded me the ability to travel the world for hopefully 2 plus years. I’m starting off in Australia on a one-year working visa and am going to take it from there. After Australia, I’m planning to head up to Asia but for right now I’m just taking it as it comes.

I’m not a big drinker or party animal, in fact I’m a bit of a tight wad and more of a get up at dawn to watch the sunrise and workout type of guy. I do enjoy a good party though and hope to meet many a cool people along the trail.

The most I expect out of this trip is a good time, exposure to other people, cultures and ideas and not sit in front of a computer 10 hours a day. I could go on saying that I want some sort of religious awakening, an epiphany of some sorts, perhaps figure out the meaning of life or “find myself” but I doubt that’ll happen. I’m just going to take it for what it is, a series of random chaotic events that I call life.

I am a fitness fanatic and live Crossfit.com. I may not have gym pass or an expensive home gym but I intend to keep going balls to the walls while traveling and plan to workout even more while on the road. Check out my fitness blog Crossfit Anywhere.
