Wearing Flip Flops Is a Way of Life
Bula Sia all,I have been away for almost 2 months now and I have been in my flip flops for almost all of that. They are very comfortable and much airier than shoes. They have made my skinny feet wider but that is okay to (sacrifices).VoroVoro is still as busy as ever and I am working on some interesting projects. The shelter for the wood that I expected to take about 2 days is now into it’s second week but we should finish by Friday. You got to love Fiji Time. We dug holes for the 4 outside posts and then reused the existing roof. After that we constructed a shelf that will hold the dry wood and the wet wood will go below until it is dry. We bashed bamboo and are weaving the walls and then we are done. A group of us weaved a whole wall yesterday without any help from the Fijians. When I showed Tavita what we had done without any help he said that I was Fijian so it didn’t count. This weeks SevuSevu ceremony I was a Toana Guard which means that I dressed up in a grass skirt with leaves tied to my arms and warrior paint on my face and body. It was a pretty neat experience but i had to sit with my legs crossed through out and they got very sore, it was about 4o minutes long. Check out the picture from before the ceremony. I have also attached a pic from the front of Tavita’s house with the sign that I made for him. As I said before they all name their homes and Tavita called his “ULUINAKAU” which menas “for everyone”. He was very pleased with the sign.I have decided not to go for the January Chief as I just like doing the work instead of been the boss and I think most of you will understand that. I have extended for another week but I may actually go after that. I have learnt so much but i think it may be time to move on and see some other things. I did say that I would not get stuck in the first place I go so maybe it’s time to move on. It is going to be very hard to leave VoroVoro so don’t be surprised if I end up staying anyway. Just not sure of when to leave because I like it so much but there is a great big world still to see.It is very weird not hearing any news from the rest of the world but I like it because we rarely hear bad news and everyone here is cheery. I have not missed any sports like hockey or football as my mind has been on other things and you just seem to adapt. We had a great group of people in the last 2 weeks and I seem to get along with everyone. Some better than others but everyone just the same. It is nice just to be me and not having to worry about imptressing anyone. We are all really equals and to many people forget that (I was going to say “in the reakl world” but I am in the “real world” just not one that most are part of) and I hope that a blog like this will remind everyone of that. We will be performing “meke” ( a Fijian Dance) in Labasa for the government on Friday. They have requested us to perform and there should be about 1000 people there to watch. We have been practicing alot and we are pretty much ready and if we goof up who care or in Fijian “Sega Na Lega” or “no worries”Stamps win the Grey Cup??? what is with that, next the Bruins are going to win the Stanley Cup!!!Everyone take care,SteveI have had to take the pics off because the internet is really slow today and I am running out of time so hopefully I can add them next time.

Great update!!! The Bruins actually may win the grey cup….oh yeah, don’t worry about coming back to Canada cuz their won’t be one to come home to as the Bloc Quebecois will be running the country shortly. Think I am joking? Unfortunately, it’s true……Miss ya man!
