On new years eve we went to an area of town called RCA which stands for Royal City Avenue. on this strip are tons and tons of bars, clubs, and lounges all lined up in a row with giant oustide venues encircled in fence with pumping music of all different varieties outdoor bars and jillions of hip thais drinking, grooving and shooting off fire crackers in quarters a little too cramped to feel safe about. we got out of the cab and were kind of in shock. we lined up behind some kids to get into one party bnut then we realized we didn’t have any id’s. so we circled around for a while, and then spotted a location to jump the fence. jess hopped over and i had one leg in and one leg out when security came and pulled me off the fence. then they jumped in for jess and pulled her out- all of this done in a friendly enough way. so then i don’t know i think we walked around for a bit more until we convinced some security guard to let us in sans id’s. then we met some cool kids and danced with them for a while and they shared their drinks with us and made drinks for us- in thailand when you go out and party with friends you buy bottles of acohol- even just 2 people going out wouldn’t buy indivudal drinks. hmmm….. then we danced around and went to the bathroom which was truly an unforgettable scene. there was about 30 stalls in this super hip super-bathroom with 20 tight jean and stiletto wearing hip thai girls lined up anxiously behind each one. some were drunk and propped up by friends, others were on cell phones (most others) and evceryone was stylin. it was truly insanse. then we left the fenced in party and were on our way to leave when we saw a group of super cute boys dancing crazy on top of a small wall overlooking the party so we stopped and danced with them for a few hours and then took some super silly photos in a photo booth. then we stopped at a foodstall and ate piles of street food incuding papaya salad, roast pork with peanut sauce, stir fried vegi’s and rice. we rolled into villa marissandjess at around 4:30.
the next day jess felt pretty sick so we hung around teh house and watched 6 movies and 9 hours of tv. then we went to this giant kmart/costco/best buy conglomerate called carrefour at night in search of pizza but we ended up with some new underware, popcorn, and a sweatshirt.
on the 2nd we stayed pretty local. i got an AMAZING thai massage at this fancy spa. 10$ for 2 hours of trippy bliss. it was so good it was like religious and healing and physical at once. needless to say i went back the next day. after the spa jess and i went in search of a bhangra/dancehall party we had heard about. instead we ended up at another RCA-like strip of clubs. somehow we were ushered into a 25$ entrance fee club for free and danced to old school and thai rap, hip hop and reggae with some super silly thai “gangstas” we met inside.
the next day i went for another massage and met jess back at the siam center where we ate sushi, did a little shopping (it will never end in this city) and then saw Narnia; the lion the witch and the wardrobe at the movie theater. the movie was really good and it was very fun to see a movie.
Ning said you can get addicted to the massages and experience withdrawl and in fact she is right- i am counting down the hours until my next one. i have problems. We felt really bad about staying at Ning’s house so long but she insists that it is okay. thanks Ning. today we woke up, ate some italian food, then went to the laos embassy to get visas which will be ready tomorrow morning at 9am. then i think we will take a night bus to vientenne, laos tomorrow. and the trip keeps going.
things that are important to note; 1 . many thai people blow dry their dogs hair. 2. many street foods do not have signs and thus are sadly inaccesible to me. this sucks. 3. people shop in bangkok like it is the last day of capitalism and cash is going out of style. 4. thai boys are truly too cute to deal with and most of them should be banished from the universe because to look apon them is often painful. 5. the bangkok sky train (BTS) is very fast and clean and fun and costs different prices depending on where you are and where you’re going. do you think this a preferable system to the flat fee on nyc trains? 6. bangkok feels a lot like nyc- just without my friend, family and home….
so… laos. any thoughts?
