Sorano

I decided to visit Sorano in May 2007, with my mother, we spend two weeks in Sorano and we discovered this wonderful village of Maremma, really fantastic and fascinating.

We remained absolutely fascinated by its beauty, but also from the story and the main monuments that we visited, i want to tell my experience in Sorano, by describing the main aspects of the village:

Sorano is a small village in the province of Grosseto, built in medieval times on top of a rocky cliff tufaceous, which  makes it very special, the village rises in the Maremma Toscana, in the land known as Area del Tufo, once inhabited by Etruscans and Romans, who built here their cities and their necropolis.

The village of Sorano is really unique and special in its kind, it is very famous for its historical center, fulcrum of art and medieval culture, because here we can see some monuments and buildings of great historical significance, fulcrum of art and medieval culture, historical struggles for power and  events that led to its present appearance.

In terms of monuments are spoiled for choice, are quite numerous buildings that are among the alleys and streets of Sorano, to begin include the Collegiate Church of St. Nicholas, a building built during the Middle Ages, made in part Romanesque style, and partly in classical style, the Fortezza Orsini, who was the historic residence, during the Middle Ages and Renaissance dell’omonima noble family that ruled the land, Masso Leopoldino, fortification erected on a hill overlooking the village, during the eighteenth century, the two ancient doors, Port of Merli and Porta di Sopra, and finally the Palazzo Comitale.

Council to visit this village to all those who love history and art, but also to travelers who appreciate nature and good food.
